Manchester has several Wetherspoon pubs most of which I have visited a number of times. Locations etc. can be found out through their website:

By and large, Wetherspoon pubs offer very good prices for drinks as well as food. They are very individually designed and often have very different atmospheres. On the other hand, because they are such good value, they can get very crowded at the week-ends, which makes the pubs less suitable for dining. Yet, if you would like to sample their food, pick a time when the pub is relatively quiet. I can recommend the salads (caesar salad with chicken for 4 Pound something or the side salad for about 2 Pound). The caesar salad in a strict sense is not a 'proper' caesar salad because it's not made of romaine leaves. Nevertheless, it's tasty and fresh. I can also recommend any of the steaks, e. g. the sirloin (6 Pound something). Most Wetherspoon pubs that I visited even managed to cook it 'medium', which is not always easy. (I've experienced some pubs in which the 'chef' probably didn't even know what 'medium' meant.) My favourite wine was the Casa Merlot la Joya, 5.99 Pound a bottle, which appears very little money for such an outstanding taste. Also, the two-for-one offers aren't bad, if you go for fish&chips or some other simple meal. They are between 6 and 7 Pound for two meals - yet the fish&chips are nicely presented with salad, tartar sauce etc.
I can surely recommend Wetherspoon pubs for anyone who wants to enjoy a good-value pub meal. However, there have been some occasions when the food was not as good as expected, when it was half cold or not of the usual quality. The chili con carne looks and tastes more or less like it's been microwaved. The same applies to the curries which are nothing like the curries you get from Indian restaurants.
I also felt that the tables were not always as clean as you would expect in a place where people are eating. On some occasions the table was so dirty that I grabbed some serviettes and wiped the table myself. This, unfortunately, was a weak point in a few Wetherspoons - the manky tables. Yet, if you manage to grab a clean table in a cosy Wetherspoon at a time when the pub is not too crowded, it can be a very pleasant dining experience for a bargain price.

Wetherspoons pay vast sums of money to market research companies to get mystery visitors to eat and drink in their pubs. Perhaps you ought to get in touch with them and volunteer, then standards should improve. Pat.t
