I have only been to Weymouth twice but both times I was lucky weather wise because I enjoyed splendid weather.Actually Weymouth is a rather nice mixture of old and new, traditional and modern, lively and sedate, and that is why I like it.The esplanade is elegant with some nice Regency style buildings but it is also busy, vibrant and lively. If you enjoy real character then the old Weymouth harbour is a good place to head for and there are some very cosy bed and breakfast places to stay in. There is a lot to do and see in the Dorse resort. You can go on a boat trip, visit Portland, have a trip round a brewery, or attend one of several popular summer shows. The dining out scene in Weymouth is varied. There are a lot of very traditional seafront cafes which are relatively inexpensive but dont pretend to serve up gourmet food. In the harbour area,on the other hand, are sophisticated bistros and fine restaurants, which although more expensive,do serve good cuisine. If you enjoy ethnic cuisine you will not be disappointed for a town of its size,Weymouth has a lot of Indian,Chinese and Continental eateries.Shopping in town is good-the shopping centre is partially pedestrianised and its also fairly compact. There is a good range of shops and price wise Weymouth seems to be reasonably cheap. From London there is a good train service and there are also coach services as well, these are markedly cheaper. Accommodation is plentiful, ranging from several elegant hotels, medium priced guest houses to an enormous number of homely bed and breakfast places.
