It is a thoroughly pleasant town with a good array of attractions to suit a wide variety of tastes. On my last trip their in September 1999 I had glorious weather and thoroughly enjoyed my two day stay.
The promenade is very pleasant and there are a lot of distinguished Georgian style properties including several seafront hotels and a large number of guest houses and bed and breakfast places. Holiday camp accommodation is also available.
The eating scene is good. On and near the seafront are a number of traditional English eateries including fish and chip restaurants and more up market bistros and restaurants clustered near the harbor area, which is a very attractive part of the town .Weymouth also has a reasonable number of ethnic eateries if you want a fiery curry, Chinese ,Italian,Spanish or a Greek meal.
Bill Bryson in Notes from a Small Island noted that he liked Weymouth a good deal more than he had expected to. He adds, ".. The resort has moved with the times and there are usually several good summer shows on offer, fun and entertainment on the pier, boat trips and an old brewery which is well worth visiting. You can also pay a visit to Portland.
Shopping is quite good and in the summer months the principal shopping streets are very busy. However, I do not think the local shopkeepers go out to fleece visitors, prices are quite reasonable. Weymouth makes a good base if you want to explore the rustic delights of South Dorset and the lovely little town of Lyme Regis is not far away.
Advantages: fun Disadvantages: horrid when raining
...The train track that is. Weymouth is a train ride from London of around 3 hours on a good day, and you must change trains on arrival, or return to London!!
Whats in store at this very well known seaside resort?
Sand and sea, lots of it. The tide goes out a long way leaving a vast expanse of sand, golden sand at that, with, during the summer months, a sand artist and his work being exhibited near the southern end of the beach. The sea being a beautiful ... ...of each other.
Inside Weymouth itself is a small harbour housing a variety of boats, yachts and fishing boats. Out in the main sea area is a large dock where channel ferries and the like dock.
Restaurants are in abundance, catering for all nationalities and tastes, and can be as cheap or as expensive as you wish.
There is a sealife centre which is well worth a visit, especially for children.
Amusements are a main source of attraction during the ...

Advantages: Very good range of shops Disadvantages: Attracts to many tourists
I visited Weymouth and Portland Bay 2 weeks ago whilst on holiday and i've gota to say that, Weymouth isn't really that interesting. Yes, its got a sandy beach which has a lot to say for itself, it leads itself to the public because around Dorset most of the beach's are shingles. But its' just another fun-filled town, full of tourists. If you are looking for a good comparison try comparing it with Blackpool. Especially when they turn on the lights. ... ...However before our trip to Weymouth i visited....Portland Bay...
The lighthouse at Portland Bay is WELL worth looking at. It coast around £5 for a family ticket if my memory serves me right!Although my advice to you is not to take smaller children as it is a little boring. There are also quite a few steps to climb up to the top of the lighthouse, but by the time you reach the top you get some "breathtaking" veiws, its well worth the visit and you ...

Advantages: Beautiful beach, shopping, cinema Disadvantages: Dodgy road network (leave the car at home)
Weymouth is a seaside resort unlike any other I have ever been to. It has this kind of charm that you dont find anywhere else. Its main attraction has got to be the miles of beach ranging from a sandy beach to a more pebbled beach. The beach is the place where most of the big events in Weymouth take place. The other week was the volleyball festival, coming soon is the traditional firework festivals. There is always something going on here.
I wont ... ...to explore.
Traveling around weymouth is a simple affair with frequent busses. Its probably better to leave the car at home as the road network wasnt really designed to cope with the enormous amounts of visitors the town now recieves.
If your looking for a holiday in the UK this year i strongly recommend coming down to Weymouth, it really does always have something to do and i cant imagine a better place to live. ...

Advantages: Gorgeous sandy beach and lots to do Disadvantages: It's getting busier and busier!!
miles south of the county town, Dorchester, and 25 miles to the west of Poole and Bournemouth. These days Weymouth is quite a large town in its own right, served by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, so there are plenty of attractions, night life and activities to keep everyone entertained.
Getting there
By road
Weymouth is not directly served by any motorway, but the A roads that lead into the area are generally dual carriageway and fairly free flowing, even in the height of the summer season. I find that the best route into the town is via the A354 from Dorchester, which leads directly into town. Dorchester itself is very well served by the A35 from the west, A37 from the north (leading to Yeovil and the M5) and the A31 from the east. All major coach companies now have routes to, and through, Weymouth, so it is easily accessed ...
