Whipsnade Park
Safari parks, zoo's, animal parks…a misconception by many that these places appeal only for the younger generation. Not Whipsnade. With its fine animal selection and beautiful grounds all hearts and minds, no matter the age will feel right at home here. Of course this is only my opinion, well in writing anyway, though hopefully it will help give you an idea of what this park is like.
I had been to many zoo's and safari parks in the ... ...as this, a review on Whipsnade would not be the same without a brief background as the park itself. I promise I will be brief!
Originally the zoo was called Whipsnade Park Zoo, the name changing to Whipsnade Wild Animal Park back in 1988 though in 2007 it once again changed to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo after the owners of the park; the Zoological Society of London. This same company owns wider known zoos and animal parks such as London Zoo. There are 600 ...

Advantages: Enjoyable day out, well-cared-for animals in natural surroundings Disadvantages: Catering outlets minimal, no lions!
...apparent in this opinion, is Whipsnade Wild Animal Park.
It’s educational …..
My first visit to Whipsnade was on a school outing. I was six years old and I well remember the excitement that we all felt on that day. There were forty of us in our class, allowed out with just our form teacher and the headmaster as I recall. I had a newly acquired camera, a Kodak instamatic, and a black and white film that would take 12 exposures, and I had been told ... ...of the viewpoints overlooking the Whipsnade downs. We fed the peacocks that joined us for lunch. The grounds of Whipsnade are very extensive so it is possible to take cars in and drive around, stopping wherever you choose (but you do have to pay a premium to do this). There is also one part of the zoo that can only be visited by car, a track through grassland. Whipsnade has led the world in providing generous space for animals in captivity. So you ...

LOCATION
Whipsnade is near Dunstable in Bedfordshire. It's signposted from the M1 and the brown tourist "elephant" sign is easy to follow. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from the junction 9 of the M1.
There are bus and train services that get within taxi distance to Whipsnade. For bus services from Luton and Dunstable call 0870-608 2608. Green Line Buses from London Victoria to Hemel Hempstead (summer only, and not on Sundays) call ... ...6pm.
ADMISSION PRICES
Whipsnade has an external car park that charges £3.50. If you take your car into Whipsnade then admission for the car is another £11.00! Firstly I feel that the external car park charge is high for a car park in the middle of the country. If it's a fine day, you don't have kids and you have the energy to amble around then it is the better choice. Out of season, I would recommend that you pay to get in with your car as the ...

Advantages: Good selection of animals Disadvantages: A long walk, quite tiring for children. Poor cafe.
Although this is a nice park (in terms of different animals to see) it is much too expensive for what it is. There is a bus which goes around the park but we opted for the walk. The cafe serves a poor selection of food at high prices (£4.50 for chips and 2 sausages) and the toilets are not very clean.
The indoor inclosure which has various insects and bugs is very poor - when we visited, there were ants and cockroaches running loose inside. Not ...
