Olympic Whistler

Advantages: Spectacular scenery, something to suit everyones tastes
Disadvantages: It is a bit far to go from Shropshire

...Highway 99 to get to Whistler Village and Mountain; at this point I have to say that the journey to and from Whistler is all part and parcel of the wonderful trip. As we travelled along Highway 99 we were greeted by some exceptional beauty as the views of the countryside and mountains came into view. As the road is so very wide you have a different view as you come back down it at the end of the visit. I was like a kid in a toy shop filled with excitement; ...
...them many coming down from Whistler with felled trees on the back. Canada has no shortage of trees and the majority of the houses are made of timber. We also drove past a couple of Indian Reservations on our way and a few eating spots if we needed to stop including a MacDonalds (they do get everywhere).

Even though there were road works at places, there was absolutely no road rage or pushing in like you get over here. Everyone was ... more

Don't forget Whistler in the summertime.

Advantages: Excellent resturants, outdoor activities
Disadvantages: A bit busy in the village

Summary Whistler is a purpose built resort for having fun, lots of summer activities are avaliable in August and the hotels are of a good quality. Resturants are sparse, but the quality is very good. I highly recommend the 'Araxi', but if you are on a budget 'The Spaghetti factory' is the place for you. Just remmber to book either before you go. General information I had heard about Whistler as a ski resort, so when my wife and I where planning ...
...of the hoilday here. Whistler is situated about a two hour drive north of Vancouver, nestled into the mountains it is mainly a resort for skiing. The dude and dudette's of Canada have seen to it that Whistler is also a great place to be in the summer as well as the winter. The arrival We arrived in the afternoon, hot and bothered after travelling over six hours from Clearwater. The travel agent was right, the twisting roads south through the mountains ...

The Best of All Worlds

Advantages: Beautiful, affordable, great skiing snow
Disadvantages: Not a lot else outside of the village

...to make a trip to Whistler to discover a new favourite resort. Only one and a half hours out of gorgeous Vancouver, Whistler makes an ideal three day getaway in both the summer and winter months. In the summer the ski runs are opened to mountain bikers and hikers and the glacial lakes are absolutely stunning and refreshing to swim in. Accomadation prices are lower in the summer at all of the hotels and lodges and there are often group rates available. ...
...Whistler come alive. Set at the base of Blackcombe mountain, skiers can enjoy a dual mountain pass for as little as $62 a day which gives unlimited access to some of the most stunning and challenging runs in the world. For the beginners, there are a host of Green rated runs and top notch instructors. It is never below -10degrees celcius and snow is abundant usually daily. With over ten lifts (two quad lifts) fully operational, lift queues are kept ...

Whistler - Best ski resort I've been to.

Advantages: Friendly, informative, good snow, excellent skiing, cheap meals, quick moving queues
Disadvantages: long journey and price of flight, we had to get a bus to the lifts

...biased! I went to Whistler a group of friends, we stayed in a chalet with a hot tub. This was my first time skiing out of Europe. I have been to several ski resorts in Europe and to Vail in Colorado but none of them compare with Whistler. There was fantastic snow, lovely light fluffy power and excellent off-piste and gladed routes, as well as fun parks, adding much more variety to the skiing. The people were fantastic, not like France where every ...
...All the people were really laid back and friendly on the lifts. There were plenty of piste maps about on the slopes, so no need to worry when you have a bit of a fall and your map gets buried in a drift. The lifties went out of their way to help you if you asked them for info. There were info boards in helpful places giving you plenty of information about which lifts and runs were open. Every one speaks English, the only downside I can think of ...

Advantages: great facilities, usually lots of snow
Disadvantages: pristine image is tainted

...mountains to ski on - Whistler and neighbouring Blackcomb. The nightlife is good with lots of bars dotted around the new, but compact town. But with all the high-rises going up it is in danger of becoming too developed. Also, the ancient forest around Whistler is being logged at an alarming rate, which detracts from the beauty of the surroundings. On the road up from vancouver (2.5hrs or so) there was logging truck after logging truck bringing down ...

Disadvantages: Long trip requires two weeks to make the most of the cost.

...at least their Canadian cousins). Whistler provides some excellent runs and is particularly good for intermediate skiers, although skiers of all abilities will find plenty here. Whistler is a popular resort with the Japanese and the available cuisene reflects this if you fancy a sushi then here's your chance. I would recommend two weeks if your skiing to make the most of the trip, you could always do a two centre holiday with Banff if you fancy a ...

Best hotel in Whistler?

Advantages: Luxury hotel in Whistler
Disadvantages: I had to go home!

I stayed at this Four Seasons Hotel during July 2005. Not quite the right season perhaps to go to Whistler, as it's associated with skiing and wintersports (hence the 2010 Winter Olympics) but it was a trip organised by my company so I didn't have much choice in the matter. I was there for four days and loved every minute! Whistler itself is an outdoor community, in that if you're into sport and activity there's plenty to do. During the winter you can ski down the mountain, but when there's no snow, the Canadians just mountain bike down it instead. The hotel is fantastic. It's not in the centre of Whistler, but Whistler is small enough to make it within easy walking distance of everything. We arrived mid-afternoon and checked into our room easily. We were lucky enough to be given a suite and it was fantastic. We were ...

Racing Through The Cities

Advantages: cheap travel, comfortable
Disadvantages: -

While being in another country it is always a good idea to find out about the different travel methods, as you never know when you might need to use them. I had first heard of the Greyhound buses through watching American TV shows as they sometimes mention it but it had never really meant a lot to me. It wasn't until I was travelling the west coast of North America that I came across the idea that I needed to get places and do it cheap as well which is when I googled Greyhound. To sum them up they are basically like the North American version of Megabus, cheap travel and an okish service. I first ordered with them through the website because it was easier to do, they do travel through Canada and America and I was booking a journey from Vancouver to Whistler which is roughly about an hour and a half. It is best to book in advance as ...

Whistler....Yeah

Advantages: You'll look good.
Disadvantages: It hurts

OK, this is the next episode in my opinion fairy story. This op is split between the ski resort of Whistler, and snowboarding in general. Both of them are mint. Whistler Whistler is located in British Columbia, Canada. Thats on the West Coast, about 2 hours from Vancouver, along the spectacular 'Sea to Sky' Highway. It is a purpose built resort, split into two halves, Whistler and Blackcomb, which used to be separately owned and run but have since been amalgamated into a single world class resort. The skiing and snow is second to none - the range and quality of the runs is unsurpassed, from groomed blues to unpisted glacier runs, open snow at the top to winding tree runs lower down. The area is serviced by a fabulous lift system, so there are few queues. The town itself can only be described as quaint yet functional - it has ...
