Advantages: Everything - its an amazing place! Disadvantages: None that we encountered, although we heard it wasn't safe to venture out into Negril on your own.

The beach was fantastic, just like you imagine it will be but don't really expect to see! Whitesand, turquoise sea which is very warm and very calm, plenty of sunloungers, complete with cushions that double up as floats! The same sunloungers/floats are round the pool, which is really nice, with two jacuzzi's and a swim up bar.
The food was delicious - from the full cooked breakfast, freshly made omelettes or fresh fruit in a morning, to the snack bar or self service restaurant at lunchtime, and to the main restaurant or Italian-style restaurant in the evening, it was all great. There was also an a la carte restaurant, but we didn't eat there. There's speciality nights on a few times a week, with barbecues or theme nights. Beaches Negril

When deciding where to go on our first family holiday abroad, it didn't take us long to decide upon Beaches Negril. Our son had been born 9 months after our trip to Sandals in Jamaica and we thought that this would be the perfect place to take our little Sandals baby!
So, we went forward and booked our holiday to Beaches Negril for 2 adults and a 15 month old baby!

We have been to Sandals a few times and are Signatures members (loyalty members club). So, we know a few things about the Sandals/Beaches Resorts. One thing we do know is that travel operators CANNOT discount the rooms on their own. If Sandals/Beaches does, then they can. that at night the colours reflected onto the ceiling and around the room - so romantic (there you go Peter - your ceiling description at last!).
Our balcony did indeed look over the tropical gardens which, in my opinion were better than those at OR. We even had a partial sea view!
I preferred the accommodation in Negril - it was more modern and had better air con (remote controlled rather than storage heater-style).

Negril deserves its own section on the beach. Rather than being a private beach like OR the hotel is on the main Negril beach at Bloody Bay (they used to slaughter whales here, hence the name) situated between a new Riu hotel and The Grand Lido hotel.
