Willen Lake was constructed in the 1970’s. Willen Lake is divided into 2 lakes South Lake and North Lake The south lake is the area with most of the facilities the north lake has more nature interest
The facilities here are managed by whitecap leisure and won a green flag award in 2003. Willen Lake is 100 acres of water surrounded by 80 acres of green parkland. The river Ouzel runs along side the lake that takes some floodwater from the river.

That’s how I was on the lake and in the lake . ……… I was on a sailing course there a few years ago. So yes I did (just) manage to strand and sail on a topper sailing boat and fall of it many times too many times I did not continue this activity after the course I was on I made a mistake would have been better in a mistral or a proper boat rather than one which is more like a sail board Still that was when my daughter was Swallows and amazons mad and wanted to sail so mum tried to live the dream with her. So yes there are sailing facilities and lessons here I think canoeing too. No swimming in the lake though.
There are tennis courts here to and 5 a side football pitch.
Bicycles and equipment can be hired here too. Or if you have not enough energy the miniature steam train might be good to ride on.
There is a bandstand (Victoriana) situated on the finger of land that sticks out into the water this can be hired for summer parties or adorned with flowers for a perfect setting for a romantic civil wedding. Sometimes music events are held here on the 19 July the English sinfonia orchestra will play here.
The surroundings of the lake are perfect for a picnic but there is food and drink (alcoholic and non alcoholic) available at the lakeside grill and there is a kiosk selling drinks snacks and ice creams Next to the grill is a travel inn if you wish to stay the night. There are picnic benches and tables around the site.
There is a health club with a gym and a swimming pool a crèche is available here. If you want a bit of a work out but not the gym you could just run and do the press ups on the outside trim trail. There are toilet facilities in the clubhouse and of course the restaurant areas some suitable for disabled users . I am not 100% sure but since a creche is run at the gym I expect there are baby changing facilities
There is a small play park for children and I have seen a bouncy castle there.
In the corner of the park is the peace pagoda containing relics of the lord Budha , near the pagoda is the one world cedar tree planted in 92.
You can fish in the south or the north lake, bream, perch, pike, roach, and tench are caught here The north lake is quieter, peacefull a few people but not many . the north lake is about 1 ½ miles to walk around. Willen lake is an ideal place to bird watch there are information boards and blackboards to write your sightings. By the side of the north lake there is a hide to view the birds, around 200 species have been spotted. Some of these are grebes, coot, mallard widgeon, kingfishers, woodpeckers an osprey has been spotted here to ,if you want a full list I think the bucks bird club would have one.
I think this park and the lakes offer plenty of facilities for rest relaxation and sport for all the family . I fancy a stroll round there this weekend. If you are disabled you can access a lot of the areas . thank you for reading Mary I have been on Willen Lake been in Willen Lake and walked around Willen Lake!!
