My passion for browsing holiday brochures on cold dismal nights continued, the hubby fancied the Cyclades- a group of Greek Islands scattered across the Aegean sea of Greece - for a change from our usual choices of Crete, and Kos etc.- and as ever it was left to me to choose the appropriate dwelling for our two weeks.away. I decided on Naxos, only accessible by ferry via a chartered flight to Mykonos (if partaking in a package), the largest Island in the Cyclades..
The week before Christmas of 2004 I booked and paid a small deposit of £90 to Kosmar - a Greek holiday specialist in the UK - the balance of £600 was due the following June - plenty of time to save. The hubby wanted to book flights and accommodation separately but I like the security of a package holiday!

Advantages: Something to suit everyone Disadvantages: Getting there
Naxos is a great holiday destination for both families and couples. We arrived at Athens airport and got a bus to Rathina port to catch a high speed ferry over to Naxos. The ferry takes 2 and a half hours and is extremely comfortable and fast. The ferry costs approx 50 pounds for a return trip. I would recommend flying into Athens as there are more frequent cheaper flights than to Naxos.
Naxos is a large Greek island and is an extremely friendly and relaxing place. There are very few English tourists and is a holiday destination for the Swedish, Dutch and Germans.
The main port has many Tavernier and restaurants but hidden away behind the old castle walls are an abundance of family run restaurants which tend to be cheaper. The sea food is speciality of the island and is very reasonably priced.

Advantages: Value for the money, cleaniness, pool, location Disadvantages: Same breakfast every day, no free internet (but didn't ask Stelios, maybe if you ask you can)
) with some sea view. The room was large, with a fridge and a small cooking area. A terrace with a small table is available to eat outside.
The hotel is located in walking distance of the whole Naxos town.
Small disadvantages:
- as a couple we would have wanted a large bed instead of two smaller ones next to each other
- a microwave would have made simple cooking easier (but eating in town is cheap too)
- the breakfast buffet was identical each day, some fruits would have been welcome too.
This hotel is definitely worth the money you pay for a room.
