After trailing through many search websites we finally came across The Windsor Inn hotel. So this is where our problems began.
We booked the hotel through booking.com and got to the end of the whole confirmation part and paid when a pop-up came along saying the room we'd paid for was not available. I tried contacting booking.com who confirmed that no payment had been made, I even phoned my credit card company to make sure. So an hour later we'd booked another hotel and I went to my emails and low and behold I found that I had confirmation of the Windsor Inn saying that we did have the room. (I eventually paid for 2 hotels in the end and had a real problem cancelling 1 of them).
So we finally sorted this all out and hooray we were going on holiday!!
~~The Travel~~ We flew with a basic airline that were a bit of a pain with checking in but we got throught that pretty quickly and the flight was only 55 minutes. Cork airport was completely empty and so by the time we got off the plane our luggage was ready- so we thought things were looking up.
We found some link buses from the airport to the town and we were given the impression that we would be dropped outside our hotel...... WRONG!!!We were dropped in centre of town and told to walk the rest of the way. Ok so we were only a quater of a mile away but it was pouring with rain and we weren't allowed to check-in until 12.30 (it was 9am in the morning).
~~The Windsor Inn~~ We managed to persuade the hotel to take in our luggage in early and went out an about round Cork. 12.30 came so we decided to go and "warm up" in the hotel. For the price we paid £23 per person per night we weren't expecting The Ritz but well it was extremely old fashioned.
We were in a triple room which had 1 double and 2 single beds, all extermely lumpy but they'd do. If you have any mobility problems this is certainly not the hotel for you because we were on the top floor which was about 6 flights of steep stairs.
This is where we encountered our next problem. The shower.... well apparently the water pressure is quite poor and so the water was a small trickle when it actually worked and heat does not rise in this country because only 1 out of 3 of us could have a luke warm shower each day (the rest of us had a freezing cold 1). We were offered to use a bathroom in a different room which while kind was impractical and useless because no hot water there either.
The rooms were basic but not really very clean and the sheets had "interesting" stains all over them. The breakfast however was quite good and there was a variety of cooked food available and it did at least warm us up.
The staff were friendly enough but not that helpful. When asked questions about travel etc they just handed us leaflets that were not very informative or helpful.
In the end we were so unhappy we asked for money off and were told we could have 20 euros off but when it came to paying the bill we got about 30 cent off and being too tired to argue we decided this was all we were going to get.
~~Conclusion~~ While it was only a short walk into town which is the main reason we booked into the Windsor Inn it really wasn't a great place to stay. Luckily we were only there to sleep so iot wasn't a huge problem and it was very cheap but it wasn't clean and only 1 person could have a luke warm shower. We were there 4 days and 3 nights and that was definately long enough. What with the wet weather as well it probably dampened our mood even more.
I would not recommend this hotel even to an enemy let alone a friend. Sorry guys!
