The Heights of Literature

Advantages: A classic novel that impress peole with your variety of reading materials
Disadvantages: a slightly contrived ending

As many of you know, I have a great love of literature. Not just the current best sellers but children's classic, adult's classics, text books and many more genres. However, when studying my A2 literature I found that the books lost a lot of the appeal that they once held. Therefore I am pleased to say that I didn't read the classic Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte until just the other day. I had read Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre and fell in love at once with Mr Rochester, all of the Austen novels, falling in love at once with Mr Darcy and many of the other Victorian type novels, mostly for pleasure but with the mind that they would help for comparison of texts of the era when I sat the dreaded exam for the worst book I have ever read, Tess of the D'Urbevilles. Review of Wuthering heights - Emily Bronte

Summer Heights High - A Triple Threat!

Advantages: Hilarious laugh out loud comedy - when you understand it
Disadvantages: This will probably be the only series

, looking at how he influenced the pupil?s life and how he had tried to warn her away from sex and drugs. Alongside this plot, Mr G is also trying to secure funding for the Gregson Performing Arts Centre, his vision of a perfect teaching space and theatre complex. With this he has run-ins with the headmistress, an incredibly down to earth likeable woman who looks as though she hasn?t got long left until she is free to retire, and also with the special-ed kids. She never brings into question the idea of her being an actress or it being a comedy show ? she simply is the Headmistress of Summer Heights High. WARNING: Mr G is walking an incredibly thin tightrope, veering somewhere between completely political incorrect, and an interesting perspective on how ?normal? society reacts to those who are different. Review of Summer Heights High (DVD)

Wuthering Heights

Advantages: Classic Story, Strong characters. Classics often cheap.
Disadvantages: Difficult language. Some complications

Wuthering Heights is a book about people. It’s a soap opera in the lives of two households in early 19th century northern England and is one of those books that you just have to read. It’s often mistaken for a love story telling the story of the famous romance between Catherine and Heathcliff. That was one of the mistakes I made. Although there is a relationship explored between these two characters, it’s by no means the main aspect of the story. Emily Brontë explores a range of issues in this book which were obvious key aspects of life at this time. Ideas such as inheritance rights, relationships, marriages and death are all dealt with and a range of options given to the reader.
