I'm pretty spoilt and always demand to be taken to new places by the fella on my birthday. It just so happened that in the week leading up to my birthday I had been looking through this great days out for kids book. anyway Iwas looking at things that could be fun to do quite close to home when I stumbled upon Woburn Safari Park.
It cost £16 to enter the park with the car. As you enter you pass the restaurant section, but once through the toll, your tour begins. You are advised to keep your windows closed and arms inside the car at certain points, but this isn;t necessary as you pass the hippos first. You then come against giraffes and elephants and other large animals that you would expect to find in a zoo.
I enjoyed going round the park but fouind it a bit much at times when people held up the traffic queue. Admittedly, the path is wide enough to overtake, but not everyone is considerate enough to stop in a way that allows you to do so.
he sealion enclosure is somewhere you should take the time to stop and find out when the presentation times are because you may be lucky enough to feed them, but you'll definately hear the talk given about sealions which is rather interesting.
I enjoyed entering the lion enclosure because luckily the lions and tigers were out on the prowl quite close to the track which doesn't happen often apparently.
One of the fun parts was the Australian walk about because it is the one bit of the park where you can park the car, leave the vehicle and walk around with the emus, ostrich and other Aussie wildlife.
One of the fun features that made my day though was the monkey business section. This is a series of rope ladders and bridges, climbing frames and tunnels. Word of advise, don't attempt to do the course in stillettos and a white handbag, not only will you get tangled up and fall flat on your bottom, but the young agile kids find it most hilarious.
the helter skelter is a fun run, but be prepared to queue. be even more prepared to wrestle the pesky kids to the ground for a sack. The way it seemed to work was if you had a sack you could continue to slide as much as you want, but once you surrender the sack ,you have to wait until you con another individual out of theirs. Luckily for me, once down the slope and the trek back uphill was enough for me. It was way too hot to be straining myself.
Knowing that the food and stuff would be expensive, i cheated and took my own to munch in the car so can't tell you about the prices or quality.
You need a really good camera for this trip. A mobile phone just doesn't cut it, especially in the lion enclosure where they often hide out behind the distant trees. You also need time to do the lap round more than once bcause the animals do appear and disappear frequently.
This is more than just a day out for the kids, although they are bound to enjoy the adventure. I would recommend the safari park to anyone that has an interest in animals and would prefer to see them in more natural surroundings as opposed to in cages.

Can you tell me is this £16 a car or £16 per person? My boyfriend lives near to here and it’s somewhere I keep thinking about going on a Sunday afternoon. The last time I went to a safari park was when I was young and the monkeys ripped my dads car to pieces – anything like that happen to you?

It sounds like a good day out. I've never heard of Woburn before.
