Woburn is a traditional safari Park. It is based in Bedfordshire in the Woburn Estate, which also includes the Abbey, sculpture gallary, deer park, golf course and village. It has a large selection of animals, most of which are seen through car windows as you drive round. This can be a frustrating experience on very busy days, and the actual drive round time can vary from about and hour (well you can do it in less if you want to leave out some areas) to about 3 hours when it is really busy. Most animals are easy to see, in habitat appropriate (or as far as can be provided in this country) areas and are very used to these strange travelling machine. There are some signs around the park telling you about the animal, but if you really want to know I would recommend getting the guide book on your way in (a further £3.50 I believe). Animals that can be seen in the drive round include elephants (3 of them) wolves, black bears, giraffes, oryx, bison, monkeys, zebras and camels. Once you have driven round the area there is a walk round part. In my opinion this is the best bit. It has walk though enclosures (just like the drive through ones you keep to the path, while the animals can move around), these are staffed all the time, and animals are fed at different times in the day. The staff are there to answer any questions. It is well worth going to some of these if you have children as it gives them a really close view of the animals. The only draw back of these is that pushchairs have to be left outside some of them. The animals in these areas includes squirrel monkeys, lemurs, wallabies and emus These is also an internal aviary with tropical birds, which can also be fed - which may not be the best place to go with a bird phobia as they are very friendly, and farm animals, which again can be fed. There are also area to walk round and see small cats, reptiles, penguins and sealions. There are also shows, including an elephant show (school holidays only), where you actually get the chance to touch and elephant, and talk to the keepers, sealion shows and bird shows. The only draw back is that it is very hard to get everything done!! There is also a tree tops climbing frame thing and bob sleigh ride for older children and play areas for younger children. There is a decent sized resturant, a shop and various ice cream and drinks kiosks. It is open at weekends through the year, and week days from February to October, though I think some shows are only avaliable in peak periods.

i live quite close to Woburn and have never managed to go.My understanding from friends is that it is quite expensive. However it has been years since i looked into it.Sounds like more of an- older child friendly place, as i know mine would be bored stiff sat in a car not being able to touch.Maybe i'll wait till kids are older.
