Advantages: Cheap, clean & central Disadvantages: Breakfast and having too much money left over to spend!
with en suite bathroom and free linen, which apparently is great for a hostel!
Opened in May 2006, Wombats (The Lounge) already has a wonderful reputation as does its sister hostels in Munich and Berlin - and also another in Vienna. Wombats won the cleanest hostel worldwide award in 2003 and I soon seen why.
Ideally suited to young travellers or even an ideal base for a city break, this hostel checks all the boxes - bed with breakfast available, bar, dorm or private double rooms all with en suite shower room and toilet, excellent cleanliness and the location is ideal.
We were greeted (like long lost friends) at the reception by an extremely cheerful guy; he checked us in, explained where everything was and gave us our room key. We went upstairs, me still apprehensively. And what a surprise! The room had the absolute basics ...
Advantages: No kerfew, breakfasts, cheap bar, friendly staff Disadvantages: Its not very clean
of the City.
If you are going to spend the night at the hostel the bar is literally the only place you should be. Dont try to get an early night as there seems a constant flow of excitable young people milling around the hallways and although they say no noise after 11pm, this doesnt appear to be followed through.
The rooms themselves are very small, I booked a twin which turned out to be a bunk bed, which although the beds were tiny themselves they took up the majority of the space. Although the sheets were clean the bed itself hadnt been wiped down for a while and, horribly, still showed the past glories of a previous guest.
The toilets were even worse, a constant smell from the moment you enter, doors on cubicles that only lock with great difficulty, urine spattered floors and seats, and according to my girlfriend that goes double ...

Advantages: Modern, great security, clean Disadvantages: A little expensive
The WombatsHostel chain is among the best in the business and The Lounge does not disappoint. Of the two WombatHostels in Vienna, The Lounge is marginally the better of the two, for location if nothing else. However, both are close to the Westbahnhof and local transport hubs.
The hostel was clean and each guest receives a linen pack. Large lockers are available free of charge and there is no need to bring your own padlock. The Internet was a little expensive, and I would recommend giong a few doors down to an Internet cafe which is much cheaper. The all-you-can-eat buffet was very good value and there are also reasonably priced laundry facilities.
The staff were extremely friendly and reception is open 24/7.
The only criticism would be the price, but Vienna is an expensive city and when compared to similar priced hostels ...
