Advantages: fabulous hotel Disadvantages: location
...and cabaret ,as well as snake shows and discos for the kids. The staff were superb and couldnt do enough for you.My only problem was the location which was about 1 hour away from town and there were no taxis so any activities had to be booked via the rep.We did 3 safaris, one overnight,&two full day trips. You cant go to kenya and not do safari. Its so amazing.A bit pricey at £156 for overnight and approx £60 for full day,but a wonderful experience. If you like a book on holiday take your own.The brochure says theres a well stocked library but the books were all in German and English books in the hotel shop cost a fortune. We will definitly be going back to Mombasa but will look for a hotel nearer town as all the hotels we saw looked just as nice as ours...

Advantages: Plenty to do and very cheap. Disadvantages: A very dirty city.
...Mombasa is a rather dirty city on the coast of Kenya. As soon as you get out into the surrounding areas though it changes dramatically. There are the most fantastic sandy beaches with clear blue warm waters. The diving is second to none with something for every one, from small wrecks, to coral walls. The marine life is truly abundant, with sharks, moray eels and turtles in hugh quantitys. On the north coast outside mombasa there is a highly recomendable diving school called Barracuda, well worth a try. Other than diving there is also plenty to do and see. There is a lot of history in the Mombasa area, and also world famous safari's. The safari to tsavo east and west is the best that I went on. If you like good food, then you must also eat at the Tamarind resturaunt as it is world class, especially the Lobster. If you like the sea...

Advantages: Great hotel, next to the beach, helpful staff Disadvantages: Heavy rain can cause powercuts!
...if you aren't planning on going out of the hotel there really isn't any point as you won't see any!
I would suggest if you know you definitely want to do safari then you should book it at home because they will only book the hotel for the nights you are in it. If you book it whilst you are there you will be paying for a hotel room you aren't using. You will need to check out of the room when on safari but they will look after your suitcases for you. This does mean you won't necessarily get the same room when you come back.
The hotel does hold a lot of weddings and is marketed as a honeymoon resort, but it caters for families, and young people too. Do remember to pack something smart for dinner though as they do have a dress code - no shorts or sports wear.
Culturally Mombasa is mainly Christian, however there is a large Muslim...
