I'm just going to begin my experience explaining what Wong Tai Sin is and a bit about its history, so you know why it's a popular tourist attraction and ver popular amongst the HK people.

Wong Tai Sin is the name given to a temple. It was built in 192 and named after a 15 year old boy who was a shepherd. He was taught how to refine a substance to produce a medecine, which was able to cure illness and diease. After 40 years doing so, he become immortal i.e. He couldn't die. Soon after his death his name began to spread from China over to Hong Kong. Wong Tai Sin, a boy who had magical healing powers and able to grant people there wishes, a temple was built so that people could pray to him, have their prayers answered.

It's a famous temple in HK but not the only one. The HK people like to worship in temples, it's part of the HK culture and people go there to pray for health and have their fortunes told.

To get to Wong Tai Sin, you can go by taxi - the faster way but expect to pay more and you can avoid the busy hustle or easily by the MTR underground trains. It's actually not hard to find because Wong Tai Sin is the name of one of the stations on the Kwun Tong Line (different lines go to different parts of the HK).
After getting of the train, I could easily tell where the temple was because there are signs ppointing me there right as I got of the MTR.

As I was getting closer to the temple, I saw people carrying fruits, incense sticks and all sorts. There were a couple of stalls near the outside of the temple who sold the incense sticks so don't worry about not knowing where to buy things. As I entered the entrance I walked down a small path, there was very little room to move but on either side were stalls and stalls piled with these incense sticks, lucky charms and so on that the atmosphere is just too much. So I quickly buy my incense sticks, some fruits lke the other people have and I was offered sweets, so why not buy them as well. When I entered the front of the temple, I was amazed at how many people were there!!! Too much people everywhere...now the in HK the pollution is bad enough and sometimes you see people with tissues over their noses and mouths, there was literally no room to breathe. Everywhere was just incense sticks, all burning away and it made my eyes water because of the cloud it caused and the smell was just too much. I noticed that the inside of the temple area had been blocked because the assitants there feared that too many people may break something valuable inside the temple so everyone was praying outside, but I didn't know what to do because there was no room for me too kneel. Looking around at everyone else who was squashed I just found a space, lit my incense sticks, put my fruits and sweets on the floor and knelt down and bowed 3 times towards the temple. Then I put my incense sticks in one of nearest bowls (I'm not sure what they are called) where everyone else put theres. I couldn't leave the fuits and sweets so I got them with me.

Leaving the temple, I pasted a long row of fortune tellers. I have never been to one before so I thought I might as well have a go while I'm there. Only I'm told that you have get a bamboo stick and the way to do that is go back to te temple and get hold of a bamboo tub then kneel down, think about what you want to ask and shake the tub until one of the sticks fall out. So I did what the teller told me, only horrified having to go back. As I got my bamboo stick I went back to the fortune teller and she analysed told me like what would happening in the coming year. I got all positive comments so nothing bad happening to me this year. I felt relieved because HK people, when they fear something bads going to happen they do things of that supposed to send away evil spirits which I know nothing about.

So, after being to a famous temple, I don't think I want to go again, it's just too crowded but I felt happy taking part in the HK culture.
