This is a long street full of clubs, bars, pubs and restaraunts. I won't name them all as there are too many and I can't remember all of their names, and I havn't been to all of them. These were the Viceroy, the Commander in Chief and the Governor of the Punjab. So it's fair to say that in Shimla society the C in C was a Big Cheese. The house was later sold to His Highness Maharaja Bhagvat Sinh of Gondal State in Western Indian who bought it as a gift for his daughter, Rani Leila Ba of Jubbal State. The old house was ripped down and the present Woodville Palace was built on the site in 1938. I think it's fair to say that it feels older. Rajkumar Uday Singh, who is the grandson of the Rani Leila then opened Woodville Palace to the public as a heritage hotel in 1977 - ironically at a time when it was less than 40 years old. Heritage is a relative thing it would seem. His family still live in the hotel...
