* The Atmosphere*
I would describe the club as chilled out and quite funky. The dowstairs is littered with leather sofas and has a pool table.Upstairs is the dance floor, banging out tunes from R&B to soul, funk, jazz, hip-hop and much more. The clubbers are generally friendly and into the music! The decor does leave something to be desired and I feel the club often looks quite tatty! I'm sure that other clubbers will tell you this just adds to the experience but i'm not so sure. I almost feel it can be likened to a 'student union' at peak times.The bar staff are very friendly but often appear over-worked. It can take an age and alot of 'pushing and shoving' to get a drink!
*Prices*
The club does has an entrance fee but, unlike most clubs, you will pay pub prices for drinks. The range of beverages lacks in well known names- don't think of ordering a 'Havanna Rum and Coke'! It's a little known brand of rum in a plastic cup on offer i'm afraid- again not unlike the local student union!

On Friday & Saturday they say,
'our resident of the last 11 years, does the stuff that we do best, to keep the funky girls happy, 10 hours each weekend solo, 52 weeks a year. If you like the weekend style and want that for your event, no problem. His services are free if you are hiring the club and he will take your night in any direction you want. He plays exclusively at World Headquarters and he has the tunes.'
On a typical Friday/Saturday night the club opens at 10.30pm and closes at 3am.My advise is be prepared to queue and bring an umberella/warm jacket in the winter months as you can queue to get in for some-time.
* Future Plans*
WHQ plan to open an indoor skateboard park on floor three, along with a live music venue on level two to add to the an art gallery recently launched on level four. This new art gallery opens 11.30 - 5pm Wednesday to Saturday. WHQ state that,
'Cutting edge visuals are the order of the day & we are very happy that we selected 'Globe City' to occupy this space and provide a gallery. The reason we have an art gallery in our building is because in time, Curtis Mayfield House will itself be a great big living work of art. People will interact on all floors & we aim to represent as many different forms of art, culture & entertainment as we can under one roof.'

*Conclusion*
This club is a unique addition to the Newcastle scene. I enjoy the music but find that the queue for, what I consider, poor quality drinks can be highly frustrating!
Advantages: Friendly, great atmosphere, intimate Disadvantages: Small, difficult to get in on a weekend
World Headquarters (or World HQ as it is locally known) is the only club in the city which relies entirely on word of mouth to advertise. Due to this there is a edgy, underground allure to the club. The club often has long queues outside, but people are never crammed in and it is one of the more 'comfotrable' clubs to be in. It is hidden behind the old bus station, with a very reasonable, slightly trendy but very comfy pub opposite for pre-entry ... ...tends to run towards House. World HQ has a lot of live acts, usually very big names in the House and trance music scene, but they do not have live music only DJs. Bigger names tend to be on a weeknight, although the club does not open Monday-Wednesday unless a named DJ is booked. Drinks vary wildly in price, the bottles are quite reasonable but mixed drinks can be expensive. Non branded sprits come in very cheap however. The club is quite small in ...

Advantages: Chilled, laid back and funky! Disadvantages: dark, a bit tatty but thats all
...get at other night clubs, World Headquarters is a great alternative! For some of the cooler kids, Worldheadquarters caters for those with a bit of style, taste and who know what they like! The place definitely has a more chilled and friendly vibe to most other clubs and is much more laid back. The music is great to dance to and the drinks are dead cheap too!
There are however one or two niggles that spoil the place.
Firstly, the door policy can ... ...id go in one at a time with a few minute gap in between as groupd of lads dont seem to be welcome...much easier to go in tow with a few girls but either way, unless there is a long queue...keep it in pairs if you don't want to avoid dissapointment.
Secondly, the dance floor upstairs is maybe a little bit too dark sometimes, it would be nice to see who im trying to dance with!
And thirdly, often when the students are away and its less busy they ...
