Wrea Head Country House Hotel, Scarborough

Advantages: Lovely location, excellent food and staff. Rooms were great.
Disadvantages: A bit remote, Noisy shredder in the toilet.

..., and I'm not sure if they are in all of the rooms, but it became bearable once we knew what set it off! There were ground floor rooms available for the less mobile. The grounds of the hotel were lovely and it would be an ideal location for a wedding. There were events on in the hotel every day and night of our stay and although we were in the room above, we were not disturbed at all. The staff remained polite and extra helpful although they were clearly busy. We booked this hotel with superbreak and got an unbeatable deal for the May spring bank holiday weekend. We would say that the Ennerdale country house hotel is not the ritz, but for great value for money, lovely central surroundings great food and rooms it's certainly worth a look.... Read review

Advantages: Great sandy beaches, lots to do, loads of historical interest in castle
Disadvantages: Can be a bit tacky, and gets very crowded on hot sunny Bank Holidays

.... You might recognize this from the closing act of the film 'Little Voice', starring Jane Horrocks and Ewan McGregor. This beach is packed on sunny summer days, and there are often sandcastle competitions. There is also a ball pool, and donkey rides. Across the road, which runs alongside the beach all the way around both bays, are amusements and gift shops. We see much of the same as we walk along, heading towards the imposing castle in the distance. But before we get there, there is a working harbour to contemplate. Lobster pots are piled up against the wall, and seagulls scavenge around for stray fish dropped. We also pass the lifeboat shed, where we can look at the lifeboat and donate a few pence to the cause, and one of Scarborough's two Tourist Information centres. ...many places to mention them all, but there is never a shortage of places to visit. All these places are reachable from the many guest houses and hotels in Scarborough. Now for my moan.! Scarborough is needing investment and some areas are looking a little run down. The general feeling by us locals is that if the council can't make money from it they don't want to know. But it is getting better. Scarborough has rail links with the rest of the country, bus services and our ever busy A64. Get a nice sunny day particulary on a weekend and the traffic is choc-a-bloc trying to get into Scarborough and reverse at the end of the day. There is a good range of parks to use when you get to Scarborough, ranging from on street parking (charges apply in town centre), multi storeys, park and ride sites and short/long stay carparks...
