... I gazed out of my window with severe writers block, when I realized I was looking at my review subject the whole time…my home town of Wrexham! Now obviously I am going to be slightly biased towards this place, as I have grown up here and lived here all my life apart from a three-year spell ... Read review

The wonders of Wrexham
Review of Wrexham town (Wales) by JaynieMo

Advantages: Great scenery and travel links and a generally great place
Disadvantages: You might get rained on

...present day. LOCATION Wrexham is located in North Wales, near the English border. The people here are stoically Welsh, fiercely proud of their Welsh roots. In fact, there are quite a few parts of Wrexham where people speak fluent Welsh, more so than in the Southern parts of the country. The majority of Welsh speakers live in the north. Wrexham is a large town, with the actual town having a population of about 45,000, while about 100,000 people ...
...of Llangollen. HISTORY Wrexham was probably most famous for it's lager, imaginatively entitled Wrexham Lager. The brand sponsored the other famous (?) thing in Wrexham, the football team, for a number of years, and I think the team may have become the first to have their team name on the shirts as part of the sponsor. Wrexham was one of the most industrialized areas of Wales, with brewing being one of the main industries. Many large breweries were ... Read review

My town
Review of Wrexham town (Wales) by gill1960

Advantages: Scenery
Disadvantages: Weather

...I was born in Wrexham and have lived here all of my life. Wrexham is the largest market town in North Wales. The town is well-known for its markets, there are three indoor markets named the Butcher's Market, the General Market and the People's Market. On a Monday there is an outdoor market called the beast market. It is held on the Eagles Meadow Car Park. There is room for 150 stalls selling a huge variety of food, clothing, footwear, household ...
...any day of the week. Wrexham has built a new shopping complex called Island Green. There you will find major shops, such as Argos. Wilkinsons etc. At the island green site is also a train station. Handy if you are coming from another town for a visit, you land right in the middle of the shops. In the main town itself which is a 5 minute walk from island green you will find all of your usual shops like Marks & Spencer, Woolworths etc. If you prefer ... Read review

'The capital of North Wales' .... or so they say
Review of Wrexham town (Wales) by Jud7

Advantages: Scenery outside of town center, markets, nightlife (debatable)
Disadvantages: Public transport, nothing to do in the day, weather

Wrexham is a market town in the North East of Wales, often being given the title of being the 'capital of North Wales'. Although this does sound impressive, Wrexham can in no way compare to Cardiff or any other major towns or cities in Wales. Although it has many disadvantages, the town of Wrexham is everything you would expect from a small market town. It is populated mainly by old people (so you can imagine how lively it is) and does have a reputation ...
...the friendliest people living there, Wrexham also has a large amount of unfriendly and rude people. However, this is mostly seen at night around the clubs, where prejudice and homophobia are extremely common (but this always seems to be ignored), at daytime it can be alright. So, just a warning to anyone a bit different from the norm; expect a hard time. It does however live up to it's reputation for being a good market town, with plenty of markets ... Read review

Roadworks, ****** roadworks
Review of Wrexham town (Wales) by KarenSioned

Advantages: It will be nice when its finished!!!
Disadvantages: road works ,bloody roadworks

Wrexham is a great place to live in . I moved here from the coast in 1974 and have lived and worked here since. It has many supermarkets such as M@S, Asda, Tesco, Kwik Save, Iceleand, Lidl, Aldi, Boots, Dorothy Perkins, Burtons, Wallis, two Next's ,Woolworths, Bon Marche, TJ Hughes, Evan's, DK Max, as well as two excellent indoor markets which sell a multitude of items and where you can get for instance, your houshold appliances fixed at reasonable ...
...old dyson broke down.. Wrexham has a busy town centre and many people from the surounding villages and counties come into the town to shop. During christmas time there was a park and ride which I hope will become a regular serivce as the amount of roadworks in and around Wrexham is phenominal ( a bit about some of that later :-) ) There are two new coffee shops opened in Queens square. Cafe Uno is lovely where you can sit near the window and watch ... Read review

Croeso i Wrecsam
Review of Wrexham town (Wales) by aspin

Advantages: Plenty to do.
Disadvantages: The newer shopping centre

I moved to Wrexham two years ago for work purposes. Wrexham is a large town in the North East area of Wales. The older part of Wrexham town centre has retained a lot of its charm with older shops, indoor markets and houses. On the other hand, there is a newer more modern side to Wrexham. The new shopping complex known as Island Green has little in the way of character but enables the shopper to buy goods cheaper and the parking is ample. Personally ...
...to. The Grove Park Theatre to watch a play or Panto. Wrexham also has a multi-cinema situated on the Plas Coch site showing all the latest releases. For sightseeing, there is the National Trust house of Eddigg or the country park of Nant Mill. Both are very children friendly. ... Read review

Far too expensive
Review of Arriva North Wales by  cebrey

Advantages: well, I suppose they do get you from A to B
Disadvantages: it's a pity it's so much money to get there.

...My parents live in a town in North Wales called Wrexham. I live in Nottingham, in the East Midlands. If I get a bus from my house into Nottingham city centre, a journey of around 4 miles, it costs 80p. To travel just over 1 mile into Wrexham town centre it's 75p. Wrexham is hardly the centre of interest for the country so why is it that price per mile is so much more expensive. If you were to do the maths then you would see that it's 20p/mile in Nottingham and about 70p/mile in Wrexham. There's something wrong here I think and I think that the problem is called Arriva. Add that to the fact that Arriva don't like you giving them notes for fares, they also look at you as though you have a growth on your head if you give them any change. Let's also think about the fact that off peak you'll be lucky to get a bus out of Wrexham... Read review

"WHO ROCKS THE PARTY!"- CHICAGO ROCK CAFE'
Review of Chicago Rock Cafe' - Swansea by  fabfrog5

Advantages: its a colourful restaurant by day, funky club by night!
Disadvantages: you can't guarantee the drinks offers are on!

...on how many Chicago Rock Cafés there are dotted around the UK. There are three in Wales (Swansea, Wrexham and Cardiff), one on the Isle of Wight and many of the remaining in most major towns such as Bristol, Birmingham areas, and even Jersey. A total of almost 60 venues are dotted around so there's bound to be one not far from home! Check their website for your nearest. If you like silly, party music that you just want to dance like an idiot to then Chicago is your ideal night out! Give it a go and remember "Don't dismiss it, 'till you've tried it!!" Thanks for reading! *photo's coming soon! :)... Read review

My Little Hideaway
Review of Llyndir Hall, Chester by  matthewsmum

Advantages: Beautiful surroundings, high quality accommodation and food
Disadvantages: The foyer can get a little too friendly!

...to Chester Races due to its proximity to the Roodee Racecourse. Wrexham Town Centre is only a ten minute drive, though in my opinion, this does not offer much in the way of tourist attractions. If you fancy travelling further afield into North Wales, there are some beautiful places where you can just chill out if that's what lights your candle. If it's countryside you are looking for, well there is certainly plenty of it. Venture up the hills to the Horseshoe Pass where some of the best views of North Wales can be seen. This is passable by car apart from when there is snow on the ground when they close the road. The summer months see the Pass chock full of bikers who tend to congregate at the tope. A word of warning - beware of sheep. They tend to wander onto the road and are not too hot on their highway code! Alliteratively... Read review
