We visited the Wyndham Boston in September 2005 and booked via the Wyndham's own website which not only guarantees the best rates (and this is true as I did a LOT of checking!) it also entitles you to membership of Wyndham By Request whereby you specify your room type preferences such as bedding and also a free welcome drink and snack upon arrival; a nice touch! We were also contacted on two occasions by our Wyndham Request Manager Jessica to check if everything was okay with our stay.
We paid approx $160 for a twin room including breakfast. If you can be flexible over dates then you can get some great deals on room rates with some rooms only rates being available from $120 +.
Check in and the room:
We arrived at about 1pm after a long flight and had to wait about an hour for our room but by the time we had grabbed a quick bite of lunch the room was ready. Never having stayed in a Wyndham property I was pleasantly surprised by our room which was large with two double beds, a separate seating area, international TV, coffee machine, work desk and ergonomically designed chair. There was plenty of wardrobe space and a new iron and board to blast away those creases! The bathroom was compact but featured a nice shower. The room's air conditioning worked very well too and one the 14th floor we had three windows affording great views of Boston. Overall, the room was very nice with good cleanliness standards but I personally would say that the rooms were less well kept than Marriott counterparts for example as there were just a few rough edges; but I am a very picky person!
We contacted the reception when we checked out and were offered a late check out free of charge because of a late return flight to the UK which was very helpful.
Breakfast:
Breakfast was included in our package and was very nice; although there was not an overwhelming choice everything that was served including bacon, eggs, etc. fresh fruit, cereals and other items was very nicely cooked and presented. The fruit was exceptional and rather than just beige melon as you would normally get in American hotel the selection included strawberries, raspberries and other seasonal fruits. Included for us was a buffet breakfast but there was also a menu that you could chose additional items from and pay the charge. My main upset with the hotel was regarding that we should have been given vouchers for breakfast at check-in but they forgot to give them to us ad so we were charged for breakfast; this was eventually resolved but took three trips to reception!
The hotel restaurant offers a range of local dishes as well as broader American and international dishes with main courses being very reasonably priced in the mid $20 mark. We also ate a lighter meal in the hotel bar which was very relaxed with good service and the sandwiches and fries we had for under $10 per person were great value and served very quickly when we were hungry!
Location and getting there:
The hotel was very well located being only a few minutes walk away from many of the major Boston attractions and less than 5 minutes to the harbour (and boat cruises) and the northern quarter.
Taxis to and from the airport take less than 15 minutes and cost under 20dollars so I wouldn't even try to economise on this small amount by trying to go by bus!
There are lots of nice restaurants and bars in the local vicinity and as the hotel is located I the business area the place really comes alive at weekends, although immediately around the hotel itself is very quiet.
Facilities:
The hotel also offers a decent gym with a wide rage of equipment and the library located at the hotel entrance is very peaceful and quiet to relax I or wait for people. The concierge is very helpful and can offer a range of services including providing information (lots of maps and booklets!) to booking tickets.
Overall, a good value hotel that is well located and scores highly on many fronts!
