...and you can still see the gate where the barge would dock. In the late 1670s a young medical student called Hans Sloane learned his botany in the new Garden. Sloane eventually became one of the most successful physicians in London; his success was so great that he was able to buy Chelsea Manor. His purchase included the land the Physic Garden was grown on and in 1721 when the Apothecaries could no longer afford the rent, Sloane gave them the Deed to the land in return for a peppercorn rent and an arrangement for plant samples to be sent to the Royal Society every year. The grateful Apothecaries commissioned a grand statue of their benefactor and a replica of this still stands in the garden today. Advantages: Part of the Chelsea landscape

...Now here's a building that's full of memories for me! I was just browsing through the city guide (as one does?) and found that no one has done a review on Chelsea Old Town Hall! Amazing! Chelsea Old Town Hall is just what it sounds like. That is to say, it's the Town Hall from the days when Chelsea was an independent borough of London before the union with Kensington in 1964 which formed the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. COTH (as I'll call it from now on) is located in the King's Road at the junction of Sydney Street 'opposite Heal's) and is easily located by bus (11, 19, 70, 211, 319 to name some) or on foot (10 minutes walk from Sloane Square Tube at a good clip off peak or 12.5 minutes from South Kensington Tube). ...! Some of the best and most interesting of London's pubs are along the river Thames. They provide an ever improving range of traditional English food, first rate views of the river and intimate details from England's history. Dr Johnson is alleged to have said " When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life" and certainly this historic city possesses an endless round of attractions. Whether it be Royal London, Swinging London, Historic London, Cultural London or Tribal London there is seemingly something for everyone in the 600 odd sprawling miles that make-up this metropolis. Numerous tourist guides are available to point you in the direction of the "musts" - the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, the " swinging Kings Road" , Chelsea, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey and the Changing of the Guard.
