**TRANSPORT**
We got off the Greyhound bus and were supposed to walk to the hostel. Luck was on out side and the kind Greyhound driver brought us to our hostel. If he didn't it would have been about a 10-15 minute walk, which would have seemed miles with a large suitcase, rucksack and 2 small rucksacks (we would have struggled). If your baggage weren't heavy it would have been hard. Leaving the hostel we had to catch a flight. A shuttle bus was arranged at reception and cost $8 per person ...
Advantages: inexpensive, spacious, well-equipped, modern Disadvantages: had to leave by 10am!
Situated in the Castlefield, the historic area of the city, YHA Manchester is within easy walking distance of shops, pubs, night clubs - in fact, everything in the city centre. It's ideal for foreign travellers, or just those needing a night stopover in Manchester. Forget your preconceptions of youth hostels - this is more like a hotel than anything! I paid £19 for an ensuite room with a TV, kettle and lockable storage space. This also includes breakfast, which is an impressive choice of a full English / Vegetarian or Continental.
There is 24-hour access to the hostel and parking for those who arrive with a car. For all the guests, there is use of a lounge, TV lounge, games room with pool table, laundry facilities, canal side restaurant with table licence, self-catering kitchen, secure lockers, foreign currency exchange and free bed ...

The YHA is situated just off the centre of Manchester in the Castlefield area. The building is adjacent to the canals that run past and offer good views as well as nosey Canadian Geese. It is in suitable reach for anyone wanting to get into Manchester by foot, as the shops are only a five minute walk away. Also next door is the Museum of Science and Technology and remains of the Roman fort that used to stand there during Vespsian’s occupation of England.
The YHA ...
