If you need a place in Manchester to stay for the weekend and the ‘Governor’ Hotel’s prices are extortionate, then look no further than Manchester’s own YHA. This is where I came to stay for a night while seeing the Manic Street Preachers in Concert at the Apollo Theatre ... Read review

Advantages: Cheap, Nice Sevice, Good Breakfast, Spacious Rooms, Excellent Ammenities Disadvantages: A long walk to the Apollo (but not to the city centre)
...in the country.
The YHA is situated just off the centre of Manchester in the Castlefield area. The building is adjacent to the canals that run past and offer good views as well as nosey Canadian Geese. It is in suitable reach for anyone wanting to get into Manchester by foot, as the shops are only a five minute walk away. Also next door is the Museum of Science and Technology and remains of the Roman fort that used to stand there during Vespsian’s ... ...by 10am. On arrival the YHA instantly impressed me as being very well run as we got our keys with no problem and were soon relaxing in our room.
The rooms were a real plus point being very spacious with ensuite facilities which doesn’t consist of a poor trickling shower but a nice powerful one that was certainly soothing. There were two bunkbeds meaning there were four beds in the room but the Youth hostel obviously didn’t mind letting ...

Advantages: inexpensive, spacious, well-equipped, modern Disadvantages: had to leave by 10am!
...historic area of the city, YHA Manchester is within easy walking distance of shops, pubs, night clubs - in fact, everything in the city centre. It's ideal for foreign travellers, or just those needing a night stopover in Manchester. Forget your preconceptions of youth hostels - this is more like a hotel than anything! I paid £19 for an ensuite room with a TV, kettle and lockable storage space. This also includes breakfast, which is an impressive ... ...three-course meal. To conclude, if you need somewhere to stay overnight in the city, look no further than YHA Manchester. It's just like a hotel or B&B and will cost you the fraction of the price. I'll definitely be going back there. ...

Advantages: Clean, pretty cheap Disadvantages: Ensuite rooms so can be noisy
Manchester YHA youth hostel is in Castlefield, about 20 minutes walk from the centre of town. It's right by the canal, in the redeveloped area where there are several new pubs and bars. It's a new, purpose built hostel, and is a little more expensive than some, at £14 a night. Rooms are for four people with ensuite shower and toilet. There's a good breakfast, cooked and cold. You can come in at any time at night, you just have to show the security ...

...Holidays, as a rule have a story to them. Be it with your parents, your mates or by yourself. About who did what to whom, how much one person ate/drank/spewed up, how much mayhem and destruction was caused, getting lost or dodgy accommodation.
Last weekend, I lived that story.
The Sydney Beachouse (SB) is located in the north of Sydney in a suburb called Collaroy, about 20 minutes drive from Manly and about 40 minutes from Sydney central. It's on the coast (BEACH-house, think about it) so there's plenty of beaches round. Collaroy beach is a 5 minute walk away from the SB - tré handy for a cooling swim or a bit of a surf. The other beaches are only a short drive away, or a walk up the beach, which is easier than driving and trying to find parking.
The SB is a youthhostel, part of the YHA (YouthHostel Association, maybe? Any...

Advantages: Great walks, fantastic views Disadvantages: Beware the bank holiday
...to loads of money for a 4 star hotel. Keswick is a good place to base as you have easy access to many great walks and have views of Derwentwater in one direction Skidaw peak in the other many of the B&Bs do good quality evening meals as well but book early as they do fill up quickly in peak season. Also if you tend to camp the lake district seems to be a little Micro-Climate in itself in that the weather is very changeable and can be the opposite to the rest of the country, the sites also tend to be very basic, no swimming pools or laundry areas you are lucky to get a shop but the ones we have tried have been clean and well kept. The YHA (Youthhostel association) is also very active here but it is not something I have ever tried.
The lake district is not only for the fit and athletic, if it was it would completely count me out...
