Manchester YHA youth hostel is in Castlefield, about 20 minutes walk from the centre of town. It's right by the canal, in the redeveloped area where there are several new pubs and bars. It's a new, purpose built hostel, and is a little more expensive than some, at £14 a night. Rooms are for four people with ensuite shower and toilet. There's a good breakfast, cooked and cold. You can come in at any time at night, you just have to show the security guard your key, but I think it's closed for some time during the day (although I may be wrong).
