The Travel Agency that likes to say YES

Advantages: Independent, Specialist, Tailor-made travel
Disadvantages: Expensive!

...I booked my holiday through: Yes Travel (and no, you probably won’t be able to afford anything to do with them, either).

Yes Travel are a specialist, independent travel agency based in sunny Peterborough, who spend their days arranging for people to have tailor-made holidays in Iceland and Norway. They have been doing so for 4 years, after stepping in to fill a niche market for those of us who want a summer holiday somewhere other ...
...brochures to look at. Yes Travel’s brochure was one of these.

The first thing that struck me about the brochure was, well, the fact it didn’t look like most other holiday brochures I had seen. (Well, I would expect something pretty good seeing as they were finalists in the 2000 Guardian/Observer Best Brochure Awards). For the first few pages, it seems to think it is a travel guide and geography lesson. Before you ever get to the hotels ... more

Ryanair for best value every time.

Advantages: cheap, quick, efficient, polite, on time
Disadvantages: seat belts tight fit

As a regular flyer with Ryanair I feel impelled to tell everyone not to get hung up on the problems you see on the programme or the bad media reports on hidden charges. The service is quick, easy to use, cheap and absolute value for money. If you - like me - are keen to travel often with little fuss and cost, thendo not miss out of the special offers. There are real bargains to be had if you are prepared to be flexible with the flight times and if you follow the instructions and dont try to add all the extras you will get a brilliant buy. Last trip for me and hubby cost 4p - yes that is not a misprint. No checked in luggage but a nice 10k small case to carry on, check in on line (FREE) and no priority boarding for the privilege of saving yourself 10 mins in a queue and the ony extra cost I had to pay was an £8 card fee. So ...

Review of Ryanair - RYR

The grand-ish Strand

Advantages: location, location, location!
Disadvantages: Work in progress

extremely friendly, commended us on our hotel choice and quickly pointed out how close we were to Covent Garden and showed us short cuts through the streets to get to the Thames bank quickly - oh yes, we had also booked a trip on the London Eye - which would save us a fortune in taxi fare. We were dropped off right at the huge glass frontage of the building and by this stage I was rather pleased with our choice of hotel. Lobby After climbing a few steps we found ourselves in a not so large lobby, which contained the concierge desk, 3 elevators with classy gold doors, cloakroom and a hallway leading to a jewellers, restaurant and toilets. Of course, being a local yokel in the big smoke off I trundle to the concierge, brandishing our party's confirmation. He very kindly directed me onwards and through to a very impressive reception ...

Review of The Strand Palace Hotel, London

How hard do you have to try

Advantages: lounge access for Silver & Gold
Disadvantages: took a lot to get out of Blue

This whole fiasco of abandoning Air Miles in favour of BA miles is a joke. What I'm currently whinging about is the fact that it doesn't seem to matter how far I fly, I can't seem to get my membership upgraded to Silver status. According to the web site I actually have enough *miles* to get to Australia! I don't actually believe that ('cos I do quite a lot of flying to the states - although I'm not sure that ) but I still don't have enough *points* to get the card upgrade. Which has annoyed me this evening because I tried to get into the business lounge at Munich this evening and got turned away because I'm only Blue status, even though I was travelling business class. ***update 28 Feb 2001*** It's been suggested that I update my opinion - yes, I have finally got my Silver status! Hmmm, need to persuade my boss that I ...
