A wonderful day out for all the family, walk along cobbled streets of victorian york , all the little shops from sweet shop to candlemakers, even a prison and fire house ( the sweet shop actually smells like a sweet shop and the candlemakers smelled like the real thing was amazing to see hear and smell what it used to be like. all located indoors in what looks like very real believable streets.
Walk through the 1950,s to the present day and what the houses used to look like , i even saw my old kitchen we had in the 80,s wow did everyone have the same one !! was looking back into my past it was facinating, to see how they used to do the housework in the 50,s and 60,s was great.
How people used to dress , all the different costumes and wedding dresses, dresses from the 50,s were lovely to see.
Take a walk through dick turpins cell and other prison rooms too.
Through out the museum there are video footage of differnt era,s and how people used to live their lives.
Take a walk through the area dedicated to the wars , unbelievable to see actual items that were used , to see peoples war books and rashon cards truly an amazing place to visit , i think more than one visit to take in all there is to see.
The birth to death section from the victorian maternity items and baby items to a full horse drawn hearse complete with coffin.
The museum is very big lots of space to walk around alot bigger than i thought from the outside. The museum is split into 2 sections with the gift shop in the middle of them both where you can buy all kinds of historical gifts.
A must see for the kids is the toy department full of victorian toys your grandparents used to have up until the what i could see the 60,s , a full size dolls house absolutly gorgeous.
A very impressive collection of items from the civil war , all the armour and guns , you can even take the test to see which armoured vest weigh,s the most from back then to the present day war vests.
Unlike most museums you are allowed to take photographs through out which is really good theres no way you can go and not come away with what you have seen.
It took us a little while to find the museum as the signposts took us here there and everywhere but follow the signs for clifords tower and a big carpark ,you will see a carosel its beside that in what looks like a court house.
I believe this is a must see when visiting york , enjoy your visit , i cant wait to go back !!

Yes, it is definitely worth seeing, especially now they have added the 60s collection to it. We spent a good few Hours in here last week and really enjoyed it too.........Roy....
