A Night at Holiday Inn
Advantages: Good Value, Clean & Good Food Disadvantages: Not enough Breakfast Tables
...i came across Express by Holiday Inn Malton Road York. The recently Built 49 Bedroomed hotel has handicapped Rooms, facilities for meetings and also banquet facilities. There are also non smoking rooms available. Twin, double, family and accessible roms are available in the hotel.
It is based just two & a half miles from the city centre, where you can see all the local attractions York Dungeons, Jorvik Centre, Castle Museum, National Railway museumand ... ...away from the seaside towns of Scarborough, Bridlington and Whitby. Shoppers are well catered for as there is the Monks Cross Shopping Centre a mile away but the city centre also has many shops to browse around. Included in the price of your room is an extensive continental breakfast, where you can either eat in the Great Room or take back to your room. It is served from 7 - 11am with choice of toast, coissant, fresh fruit, variety of cereals, bread ...

Short Break - Holiday Inn York
Advantages: Location, accessability, breakfasts Disadvantages: Hidden hair dryer!
...spent 3 nights in this Holiday Inn in January 2008. It is on the outskirtds of York and easy to find/get to.
The room was good and despite facing the main road there was no problem with noise, etc.. It was a good size, clean and tidy with a nice ensuite, tea/coffee facilities. The hair dryer for some reason hides in a drawer but once found was better than the astmatic ones you sometimes get!
The breakfasts were good, (buffet style). Good choice ... ...to ample quantities! We did not eat any other meals there though they are avaliable.
Parking is good with lots of spaces to the front, side and round the back. The staff were friendly and helpful.
In the foyer there are lots of leaflets avaliable of local places of interest.
The hotel is handy for the racecourse and the there are several regular buses into town on the main road. There is a Co-op at a nearby garage for stocking up on sweets, etc..

5 stars for the 4 star Royal York hotel
Advantages: Great location, every need taken care of Disadvantages: Price!
...this year they stayed at The Royal York with a meal at the nearby (if you call 40 minuets on a coach) Castle Howard. All very posh and normally way above my means of expense (for the general person attending this function think doctor, surgeon, well paid researcher), however as hubby does work for them they paid for most of the trip (we had to pay £26 in total, what a great deal!).
Arrival
--------
The hotel is situated next to York train station ... ...drive too. The hotel is about 5 minuets walk away from the centre of York where there are loads of shops from the normal high street chains to antique and art shops. You are met at reception by the concierge, and it is at this point when you check into your room that you realise how old and big the building is. We actually arrived quite a bit earlier than check in time but we were informed that the concierge would be happy to take our bags and deliver ...

Minster Hotel
Advantages: Very close to centre. Lovely staff and atmosphere Disadvantages: Can get quite expensive, some rooms are fairly small
The Minster Hotel in York is situated on Bootham and is literally no more than a 5 minute walk down a staright road from the city centre. It is a friendly, welcoming place to stay. My boyfriend and I were looking to stay in another hotel in York, but as this particular weekend was a race weekend, many hotels were fully booked and in high demand. My sister in law recommended this one to me, and we were able to stay here for 3 nights earlier this year ... ...Although check in wasn\'t normally until 3pm, we were allocated our room atleast an hour and a half earlier than would of been allowed, which was great as we had arrived in York alot sooner than we expected. On arrival we were asked for our name, whether we wanted to order a morning paper, and for our car registration. The hotel has its own car park situated behind the building, which is private, and obviously for guests only. This is a great plus ...
