Short Break - Holiday Inn York

Advantages: Location, accessability, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Hidden hair dryer!

...spent 3 nights in this Holiday Inn in January 2008. It is on the outskirtds of York and easy to find/get to. The room was good and despite facing the main road there was no problem with noise, etc.. It was a good size, clean and tidy with a nice ensuite, tea/coffee facilities. The hair dryer for some reason hides in a drawer but once found was better than the astmatic ones you sometimes get! The breakfasts were good, (buffet style). Good choice ...
...to ample quantities! We did not eat any other meals there though they are avaliable. Parking is good with lots of spaces to the front, side and round the back. The staff were friendly and helpful. In the foyer there are lots of leaflets avaliable of local places of interest. The hotel is handy for the racecourse and the there are several regular buses into town on the main road. There is a Co-op at a nearby garage for stocking up on sweets, etc.. ...

Advantages: Provides brilliant, high quality facilities, great location, clean, modern, very pleasant staff
Disadvantages: Might need a sat nav to find it!

...walk from York Station, the Novotel York is a superb hotel when looking for accommodation. Although cheap, it provides high quality facilities and the rooms are fantastic. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to book a trip away to York as it is great value for money. I will defeinitely be going back there soon. ...

We've fallen in love with the George

Advantages: Family-run, hotel offering a very warm welcome
Disadvantages: 11 miles from York city centre

The experience of staying at this hotel is one you want to repeat again and again. We have just visited for the third time. Kay and Michael, the hotel owners, are lovely people, and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. They took a great deal of interest in our holiday - the places we were intending to visit, how we were getting there, and the attractions we might see. They provided details of York's park and ride, bus routes and timetables, ...
...the George are friendly; the lady who served breakfast even took the trouble to remember our usual order. We have stayed in the main hotel on two occasions and once in the annex to the hotel. On all three visits, the rooms have been of a high standard, well kept, clean, warm and surprisingly spacious. The beds always offer a very good night's sleep. I would recommend you book via the George's website, which has very good "internet deals", right ...

Linden Lodge Bed and Breakfast in York

Advantages: Great breakfast.
Disadvantages: Very small bathroom for family room.

A pleasant Bed and Breakfast a short distance from the city centre. Family room on top floor not designed for tall people however! The staff were very accommodating and the breakfast was very nice and plentiful. I stayed in the family room on the top floor and apart from a badly positioned TV and the extremely small bathroom, the room was clean and tidy. The bed and breakfast is situated just outside the city centre but is only a 5 minute minute ...

Holmlea Guesthouse- an acceptable B&B in York

Advantages: reasonable price and free internet entrance.
Disadvantages: no lock in bathroom and no shower in peak time.

...stay was a B&B named Holmlea Guesthouse. Why we chose it? Before we started our trip we searched on the internet trying to find reasonably priced accommodation that ideally was close to the tourist areas of York. Most B&Bs and hotels we found charged at least £60 for a double room per night. However Holmlea was an exception. On their own website they advertised £45 for a double room with private bathroom, but not en-suite. Personally I’m not used ...
...The breakfast On Holmlea website they said they serve continental breakfast. Each morning at 8.30am a tray was left outside our door. On it were 2 small croissants, yoghurts and juices plus three jam portions (all bought from Tesco). After the experience of our first breakfast my husband would leave a little earlier to visit a local shop and buy extra food. Checking out When we checked out we were told they don’t accept any plastic card. So my ...
