Review of The Masons Arms, York by yorkshirelass3

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: no customer service

...this pub this summer in the hope of a nice meal. It was a very hot day so while my partner and I chose what to eat, I ordered two drinks at the bar and asked for a glass of water. 'We only serve Evian' was the response. It was clear to the bar person that we intented to eat dinner and therefore spend a decent amount of money in the pub but still, no glass of water. My partner and I were so irratated by this basic lack of customer service that we ...
...to the landlord of the pub to express my dissatisfaction and recieved a very rude response. He called me narrow minded and suggested that I wanted 'something for nothing.' Don't be surprised if paying customers have to fork out for toilet paper and handsoap in this pub. Zero for customer service. ... Read review

Advantages: Good Value, Clean & Good Food
Disadvantages: Not enough Breakfast Tables

...i came across Express by Holiday Inn Malton Road York. The recently Built 49 Bedroomed hotel has handicapped Rooms, facilities for meetings and also banquet facilities. There are also non smoking rooms available. Twin, double, family and accessible roms are available in the hotel. It is based just two & a half miles from the city centre, where you can see all the local attractions York Dungeons, Jorvik Centre, Castle Museum, National Railway museumand ...
...away from the seaside towns of Scarborough, Bridlington and Whitby. Shoppers are well catered for as there is the Monks Cross Shopping Centre a mile away but the city centre also has many shops to browse around. Included in the price of your room is an extensive continental breakfast, where you can either eat in the Great Room or take back to your room. It is served from 7 - 11am with choice of toast, coissant, fresh fruit, variety of cereals, bread ... Read review

Briarly Comfortable
Review of Briar Lea Guest House, York by hiker

Advantages: Location, friendly welcome, price,....and breakfast!
Disadvantages: Smaller rooms are not for cat swingers

...by the good folks at Briar Lea. I'll admit to throwing that figure in early because I want to put the place in context before telling how I found it & what I thought. The context is: most excellent value. What it isn't, is a hotel with dining facilities, spa, bar and lots of other fripperies that we didn't want anyway. What it is, is a very friendly couple-run guest house offering B'n'B accommodation right in the heart of York. It is within an ...
...context of my stay in Briar Lea was a girly weekend in the City for no particular reason with three friends. For reasons domestic and railways-related our "weekend" was to be mid-week - travelling up to York on a Monday, returning Thursday - giving us three nights in the city. Between the four of us we cover most bases in terms of relationship status, and all the guys were being left behind. Income and expenditure-commitments also vary greatly ... Read review

4*-shame I can't give it an extra half
Review of Novotel York, York by DC-DanielColeflax

Advantages: practically perfect in almost every way
Disadvantages: room not quite as depicted on the website

...a couple of nights in Novotel York Centre. I was very very impressed and want to share my experiences with you. FINDING IT The hotel is quite difficult to find and not very well sign posted, however is just off of Fewster way in the centre of York. It is just on the edge of the canal and also very close to the river. As said, it was not easy to find however was in a good central location, I'd just recommend getting a map before going to help you ...
...warning, if you visit the Novotel website you will see two different room pictures, one with blue cushions, one with orange cushions. The ones with the blue cushions are the standard rooms and the ones with orange are presumably premier rooms. Do not expect the standards of the orange rooms in your room if you have booked standard-that is the mistake we made. Still, the room was comfortable and reasonable and did what it had to do. We also had a ... Read review

Hen night at Marriott York
Review of Marriott Hotel, York by dance7

Advantages: Location, facilities
Disadvantages: maintenance/cleanliness

I spent an overnight weekend stay at this hotel earlier this year for my hen night. There was a group of 9 of us and we managed to get triple rooms (2 double beds) and the reception staff were helpful as I changed my booking twice due to numbers in my party. The hotel is greatly located a short taxi ride from city centre, costing about 7 pounds. The facilities were excellent and spending most of the afternoon in the spa it was a fairly cost effective ...
