A Night at Holiday Inn

Advantages: Good Value, Clean & Good Food
Disadvantages: Not enough Breakfast Tables

...i came across Express by Holiday Inn Malton Road York. The recently Built 49 Bedroomed hotel has handicapped Rooms, facilities for meetings and also banquet facilities. There are also non smoking rooms available. Twin, double, family and accessible roms are available in the hotel. It is based just two & a half miles from the city centre, where you can see all the local attractions York Dungeons, Jorvik Centre, Castle Museum, National Railway museumand ...
...away from the seaside towns of Scarborough, Bridlington and Whitby. Shoppers are well catered for as there is the Monks Cross Shopping Centre a mile away but the city centre also has many shops to browse around. Included in the price of your room is an extensive continental breakfast, where you can either eat in the Great Room or take back to your room. It is served from 7 - 11am with choice of toast, coissant, fresh fruit, variety of cereals, bread ...

Short Break - Holiday Inn York

Advantages: Location, accessability, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Hidden hair dryer!

...spent 3 nights in this Holiday Inn in January 2008. It is on the outskirtds of York and easy to find/get to. The room was good and despite facing the main road there was no problem with noise, etc.. It was a good size, clean and tidy with a nice ensuite, tea/coffee facilities. The hair dryer for some reason hides in a drawer but once found was better than the astmatic ones you sometimes get! The breakfasts were good, (buffet style). Good choice ...
...to ample quantities! We did not eat any other meals there though they are avaliable. Parking is good with lots of spaces to the front, side and round the back. The staff were friendly and helpful. In the foyer there are lots of leaflets avaliable of local places of interest. The hotel is handy for the racecourse and the there are several regular buses into town on the main road. There is a Co-op at a nearby garage for stocking up on sweets, etc.. ...

Queens Hotel, Queens Staith, York, UK

Advantages: City cenre, riiverside location. Close to ameneties and attractions
Disadvantages: Potentially noisy nightlife just across the river

...wife and I stayed at the Queens Hotel on a Saturday night, in mid-May. The hotel is quite modern, having been converted from an old warehouse in recent years, and is only 4 storeys high. It is right in the heart of the city centre, within the city walls, and is on the riverside overlooking the River Ouse. It stands directly opposite the Kings Arms pub, which is famous for getting flooded after prolonged periods of heavy rain. The Queens Hotel stands ...
...water. As it is in the city centre there are loads of pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants, as well as 2 theatres, 2 cinemas, various museums, including the Jorvik Centre as well as the Minster etc. all within a few minutes stroll. I know my way around York quite well, however the hotel is located off well sign-posted streets and can easily by found by anyone new to the city. It is within easy walking distance (5-10 minutes) from the Railway Station. ...

5 stars for the 4 star Royal York hotel

Advantages: Great location, every need taken care of
Disadvantages: Price!

...this year they stayed at The Royal York with a meal at the nearby (if you call 40 minuets on a coach) Castle Howard. All very posh and normally way above my means of expense (for the general person attending this function think doctor, surgeon, well paid researcher), however as hubby does work for them they paid for most of the trip (we had to pay £26 in total, what a great deal!). Arrival -------- The hotel is situated next to York train station ...
...drive too. The hotel is about 5 minuets walk away from the centre of York where there are loads of shops from the normal high street chains to antique and art shops. You are met at reception by the concierge, and it is at this point when you check into your room that you realise how old and big the building is. We actually arrived quite a bit earlier than check in time but we were informed that the concierge would be happy to take our bags and deliver ...

Holmlea Guesthouse- an acceptable B&B in York

Advantages: reasonable price and free internet entrance.
Disadvantages: no lock in bathroom and no shower in peak time.

...stay was a B&B named Holmlea Guesthouse. Why we chose it? Before we started our trip we searched on the internet trying to find reasonably priced accommodation that ideally was close to the tourist areas of York. Most B&Bs and hotels we found charged at least £60 for a double room per night. However Holmlea was an exception. On their own website they advertised £45 for a double room with private bathroom, but not en-suite. Personally I’m not used ...
...The breakfast On Holmlea website they said they serve continental breakfast. Each morning at 8.30am a tray was left outside our door. On it were 2 small croissants, yoghurts and juices plus three jam portions (all bought from Tesco). After the experience of our first breakfast my husband would leave a little earlier to visit a local shop and buy extra food. Checking out When we checked out we were told they don’t accept any plastic card. So my ...
