Modern Indian
Advantages: lovely food Disadvantages: none
...makes sense!
We visited Akbars on a Saturday night and it was busy. We did book a table but the only time we could get for our group of 22 was at 9pm, which I thought was quite late. I however didn't do the booking and so don't know how far in advance we booked. The menu is extensive and what I would describe as quite moden. I cannot remember what I ordered but the food was nice and I can't remember anyone being negative about it. A few people in ... ...of the unique features of Akbars is that they do fmaily sized naan breads which come on a huge kind of metal tree thing and you can just share it among yourself. These were lovely.
Price-wise, it is a while since I was there however I can't remember it being overly expensive so I'll say it was reasonably priced.
I know that Akbars also have a restaurant in Leeds and possibly another elsewhere.
This is a lovely restaurant if you're wanting a bit ...

The Handsome Cab
Advantages: Cheap Beer, location. Disadvantages: Lack of seating
OK, this is the second in a series of my favourite pubs in York. The Hansom Cab is one of the favourites because its a bit different. The Cab is located in York City Centre. If you are on Parliament Street, aim for the Disney Store (near HSBC and the fountain). If you head west from the Disney Store, towards Coney Street, the Hansom Cab is on your left. Its a pretty small opening, so look carefully. By the way, if you reach Coffee Republic you came ... ...enough direction.
The primary benefit of the Cab is the beer. For bitter drinkers, like me, you can get a pint of the local bitter, Sam Smith's. For £1.30. Thats as cheap as it gets in York. Its a bit rough, but excellent for the money. But thats not it. If anyone reading this has been to Austria, you may have tried Weissbier - its a white wheat beer. Its kind of fizzy and has an cidery tinge to it. Its seriously nice. The Cab has two on the menu, ...

Spice up your life in York
Advantages: Unusual fish and duck dishes, delicious food Disadvantages: Disappointing dessert menu
...wasn't too difficult to find Bombay Spice, conveniently located in the centre of the city on Goodramgate and just two minutes walk from Fibbers.
First impressions were very favourable; the exterior is attractive and well-maintained. There were no other diners when we entered the restaurant though admittedly it was fairly early in the evening. We were shown to a table right in the window - presumably to give passers-by the impression that the place ... ...that Cobra is served at Bombay Spice along with what I call 'cooking lager'. Our starters arrived as quickly as one would hope from a restaurant where you are the only diners. Mine was indeed spicy with a good kick and a decent portion of chicken - no meanness here! The duck tikka got the thumbs up and I had to sample it just to be sure; the duck was lovely and tender and beautifully flavoured. Both dishes came with a small salad garnish and I was ...

NOT the Gay Horse
Advantages: Near school, cheap beer, Millionaire machine Disadvantages: It ain't a classy joint....
...before I start. York and the York area is home to 19 pubs and inns named The Bay Horse or The Bay Horse Inn. Through no fault of my own, Bay Horse pubs in York are known as ones who harbour men of a certain sexual persuasion. Whether you would want to frequent one is none of my business. However, the Bay Horse I am assessing is The Bay Horse, located on the A19 route into York, addressed 105 Main Street, Fulford, York.
To get there, from the centre ... ...around 200m further south, on the left hand side of the road, is the Bay Horse. From the South, go into York from the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet exit of the A64. The pub is on the right hand side of the road about 3/4 of a mile from the A19/A64 junction.
The Bay Horse is a quality pub. Its not classy, but its cheap and cheerful. Beer is certainly cheap, in Happy Hours, which vary widely month to month, a Pint of John Smiths is £1.30. There is ...

Mamma Mia! Give me more!
Advantages: Great food! Disadvantages: There's no ban on children
Frankie and Bennys is an Italian restaurant, there are branches all over the country - there is a feature on their website www.frankieandbennys.co.uk - which allows you to enter your postcode and find the nearest one which is good. I'm very lucky to work just around the corner from Frankie and Bennys, so every now and again a few of us have a night out there. It is the Frankie and Bennys in York that I visit. It has only been open a few years and ... ...let them know that it's someones birthday you get a free milkshake with a sparkler in which is nice! I always have a great time at frankie and benny's and would give it 10/10. It is open from 12-11pm Monday to Saturday and 12 - 10.30pm Sunday. ...
