Designer hotel in Amsterdam 18 of 18 Ciao Users found the following review helpful

Advantages Good design and decor

Disadvantages Not enough storage

My boyfriend booked this hotel for our recent city break in Amsterdam. It is located within a few minutes’ walk from the airport terminal.

As we walked into the hotel through the red automatic doors, we found a big table with a few workstations for checking-in. The process is self-service and my boyfriend used his credit card to verify the booking. There are staff nearby to assist you. The check- in process was quick and easy. We then headed up to our room.
The room is cleverly designed. As you enter the room, you will see railings (for hanging things) and a safe on your left. Then you are faced with two circular cubicles: one contains the toilet and the other the shower. Next to the toilet cubicle are some shelves (with a full size mirror) and the washing basin. Towards the furthermost of the room is the extra king size bed and the blinds. The slim TV is mounted on the wall.

Since we arrived in the evening, we were starving after unpacking our stuff. Hence we went downstairs for the bar to grab something to eat. The canteen provides a selection of sushi, noodles, sandwiches etc. The portion is not huge but should be sufficient to fulfil any immediate hunger. On the packing of each set of meal are clear instructions for reheating the food using the microwave nearby. There are tables and stool where you can have your meal. The whole area is neat.
After the meal, we had a wonder round the lobby area. It is decorated with designer furniture and bookcases with books and magazines for guests. The other side is an internet access point with a few mac machines and a printer for customers to print documents. If you want more privacy and have a netbook or iphone, you can access internet via the wi-fi in all areas of the hotel. The whole area of the lobby gave me a very homely feel and it felt like I was inside a designer household.

Back in the room, we started using the moodpad which shaped like a remote control for television. The moodpad controls all aspect of the room from lightings, blinds to the channels on the television. However, switches are also available for the main lights. The pad can take time to get used to but it’s also fun to use. You can use it to set light intensity and colour. However, what I really like about the room is the separation between the toilet and shower. This means whoever using the toilet will not disturb the one using the shower.

The shower is very powerful and it only works if the doors to the cubicle are fully closed. There are two settings for the shower-the rainshower or shower head. I used the rain shower and it was very refreshing. It felt like standing under the summer rain.

The bed, though slightly high for a small lady like me, it is very comfortable and it also acts as a sofa. Sitting on the bed with big pillows supporting my back, I watched some tele before going to bed. The close proximity to the airport did not affect our sleep. It was nice and quiet and we had a good night sleep. Overall, it’s a decent and very modern hotel to stay in and I would go back there next time I go to Amsterdam.

Agree with ALM1, price/value would be good. Wish I was on ciao a couple of months ago; went to two fabulous hotels in Sweden and would have had so much to write about.. one was even in one of those "designer hotel" books :(
