Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing out of the ordinary on offer.

A traditional meal for us over the New Year period is to chow down at a curry restaurant of some kind. While it isn't a low calorie experience it makes for a nice change from the traditional Christmas trimmings and reminds me we are on the last hurdle of the festivities and normality is just around the corner. As for the last 5 years or so we have spent New Year in a Travelodge in different parts of the country with another couple of friends, our last curry of the year is something of a pot luck experience. This year, we struck pretty lucky with the Days of The Raj, a restaurant in Gosforth a ... more

The Days Of the Raj Indian Restaurant We were wanting a mid week Indian meal but didn’t want to venture into the city centre so decided to give this one a go. The fully licenced restaurant is situated in Gosforth, not far from Newcastle Race course and the city centre. We found it quite tricky to find because although it’s on a main raod, we did drive past it as the doorway is so small. There is some parking at the back of the restaurant most of which is reserved for the other businesses around it but because it was evening we were assured that the car would be ok, which indeed it was. The ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Terrible service

Went to the Days of the Raj on Saturday 15th October 2011, had been told by others this was a great restaurant, service and food great, HOW WRONG WERE THEY. I had booked a table a few days prior to make sure we got a table, booked it for 745pm, we arrived on time the restaurant was busy, fair enough its a saturday night. We were put in the waiting area, where there was around 15 other people waiting, after 10 minutes of sitting there we were asked if we wanted a drink, and menus were given. Around 30 minutes after arriving we got our table no apology for delay. After 10 minutes starters came ... more

Advantages Advantages the car park was empty when we arrived

Disadvantages Disadvantages service was terrible worst ever

We had been the the resruarant before and we enjoyed our meal so had been looking forwards to going back as the food was lovely .. bit pricey but nice. We booked a few days before as it was a friday night and we thought it might be busy. We arrived around 6.30 and it was quiet a few people in for take aways, we were met at the top of the stairs by the same man as before who seated us not at our table but on the side seats where you wait for a table or a take away , we thought this was strange as the family just after us were taken to a table straight away.We were handed menus and our drinks ... more

Advantages Advantages good food and pleasant room

Disadvantages Disadvantages service and knowledge of staff. Poor/nonexistant atmosphere

We had to book the table twice, first time we called, they said they were full all night; we did not believe so phoned following day and got a table no problem. Sunday night, bank holiday weekend, arrived at 7.30pm. Only 6 other tables occupied all the time we were there. The waiter was not able to explain the difference between dishes and when I chose mine, he asked me to spell it for him! Food was good quality, and although the surroundings are quite smart, the place lacks atmosphere. Drinks are not ridiculously expensive as you might find in other restaurants (eg £2.95 for pint Kingfisher) ... more
