PRICES range from fantastic value for bookings made in advance to average. The cheapest rate is £9.00 per day + a one off £5.00 preparation fee + CDW Insurance. The mileage allowance is 100 km/day + 5p/km thereafter. The rental rates increase for short notice peak-time bookings. At these peak rates, a more conventional company sited at easier to access locations may be a better option.
EXAMPLE – I obtained quotes for 7 days rental from various locations running from 16/10/01 – less than 2 days notice - and the results averaged £21.00 per day + ins, which I thought was very good value.
INSURANCE has been upgraded to only £25.00 maximum accident liability. This offers great peace of mind especially when driving abroad. The charges for insurance vary with the age and driving record of the hirer/drivers.
LOCATIONS are - Amsterdam, Barcelona, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool (2), London (3), Madrid, Majorca, Malaga, Manchester, Nice and Paris. However, so as to reduce operating costs these sites are mostly not in high profile locations, ie– airports etc – so some extra time and expense is incurred travelling to them. The schedule gives good advice on how to reach the sites, with guide prices for train and taxi fares, the latter being very helpful as we all know how taxi drivers can sometimes rip us off. ( I’m a cab driver, I should know! ;-) Seriously though, I’m THE honest one. I‘ll write my next op on how not to get ripped off by cab drivers)
CARS are Mercedes A class 5 door – 4 seater (5 at a push) mini MPVs or Smart Car 2 seater “hair-dryers“! The A class is an excellent stock choice for a car rental fleet. It is easy to drive and has a high driving position which gives better vision, making driving on foreign and unfamiliar roads far easier and safer. The Smart car is an ideal city/resort car for nipping through busy streets and parking in tight spaces
INSPECT the car on collection for scratches/slight damage and you then sign a collection condition agreement.
RETURN of the car should be made to the same site. Failure to do so incurs surcharges. On returning the car, a quick visual inspection is made by one of the staff. . Any excess mileage charges are calculated and you are informed of them. Your copy of the condition/damage/mileage sheet is then signed by the member of staff. This is your proof of the condition of the car and mileage when it was returned, so it’s important to retain and keep safe.
BREAKDOWNS are covered by a plastic smart card.
MY EXPERIENCE with easyrentacar.com has been 2 rentals from the Barcelona site. Both rentals were dealt with quickly, efficiently and in a professional manner by courteous English speaking staff. The cars were modern, clean and well prepared. The staff helpfully phoned for a taxi to take us to the airport. Excess bottles of wine and lager that we had in the boot were gratefully accepted by the staff as gratuities!
CONCLUSION – All in all, easy booking, quality cars, great service, all at a great price!

The initial booking process was quite long-winded (about 8 pages of forms) but pretty straightforward. That was until my ISP disconnected me from the server. After dialing-up to the Internet once more I attempted to continue my booking but found that my session had timed out and that I had to start the laborious process all over again.
Finally the booking was complete and the arrangements were pretty much ... ...collect the car from the Easyrentacar office near Malaga airport - a little challenge in itself. The actual office is quite a walk from the airport especially with cases and a 5-month year old baby. Eventually we agreed to get a cab to the office even though it was visible in the distance. The taxi driver was extremely understanding and had similar request before. Nevertheless I gave him a goof tip since he couldn’t charge us any more than the minimum ...

...supply cars more cheaply than EasyRentacar were unable to supply one with the ease of accessibility needed by mother. So I rented a car from EasyRentacar for £170.50 for the two weeks (including the extra insurance to cover the £500 excess). All went well, we got a taxi from the airport to EasyRentacar's office, picked up a very nice little Mercedes and away we went. Two weeks later we returned it, staff certified it has having travelled just 175 ... ...they are jointly liable with EasyRentacar under S.75 of the Consumer Credit Act and demand an immediate refund.

UPDATE; 14/02/01 Credit card statement received today with transactions up until Feb 5th (16 days after date of EasyRentacar e-mail) no supplementary charge levied yet - let's hope it stays that way. FURTHER UPDATE: 04/05/01 The threatened £50 charge has still not been charged to the credit card, neither have I ever ...

Advantages: Extremely cheap. Great, clean low mileage Mercedes A-class car. Disadvantages: You really MUST purchase a CDW. You'd be mad not to. You'll worry otherwise!
Residents of the UK will know Stelios Haji-Iannou...or simply "Stelios" very well. He's the man behind EasyJet, EasyCar, Easythis, Easythat and (the real thing) Easyeverything. Dot Com. He's deservervedly very rich, but he is also Captain Cheapo - or Mr Nice guy. He speaks good value, at any rate. We just tend to dislike EasyJet, however often we might tend to use it. Personally, I'm not guilty in that respect and, anyway....this is a review of his ... ...is really superb. Read on! Having flown to Glasgow with baby Josh, we needed to hire a car. The best available rate was very clearly with EasyCar. We decided to give it a go. We're very glad we did. We booked on-line. That's what you do with EasyCar; you'll certainly pay more if you don't. ...my surprise I saw that easyrentacar had not only taken the initial £25 for my rental, but also, a few days later, without any notification, robbed me from an additional £129.60. I have never seen any paperwork that would support this claim and as far as I see it it is a question of theft. Obviously I complained to their illusive customer service department, only accessible by email. No phone number is supplied on their website, nor any names or address. ... ...two nonsense standard replies that discard my complaint and deny me to see the supporting paperwork. They claim that I have incurred excess mileage to the tune of £129.60. In other words, with an excess mileage fee of £0.20 per mile and 75 inclusive miles they claim that i had driven the car 723 miles during the 8 hours I had it in my possession - meaning an astounding average speed of more than 90 miles per hour... I regard their behaviour as criminal ...

I recently had the misfourtune of booking with this hire car company. I have used Easyrentacar before at Glasgow airport and had no problems. They appear to have since changed names to easycar and this time we found them to be appaling.
I had done an internet search for hirecar companies at the Italian airport we were flying to. They came out as one of the cheapest and I booked the car as they were a name I had heard of. Only once the booking was confirmed (and paid for in full) did they tell me that it would be a different company actually hiring the car to me.
On arrival at the airport we couldn't find any metion at Easycar or the other company they had mentioned. After much worry and asking around various customer service/hirecar desks we found them under a THIRD company name!
We had also booked and paid for an infant seat ...

I recently used the easyJet service for the first time, and I was so impressed and pleased with the majority of the experience, hence my need to inform you about them.
The easyJet company is part of the easy group of companies. You’ll recognise an easy company by its excessive use of the colour Orange. Perhaps the most well known is the budget airline that I’ll talk more about in a mo. The other areas of the easy group currently encompass easyEverything webcafes, easyValue web price comparison service, easyRentacar, easy.com (web based email) and easyMoney.com (coming soon – online financial services)
Anyway I digress, I’m sure you know the easy group, if you didn’t you do now!

OK I'll start by admitting that my Internet addiction is getting out of hand. Yesterday when I found myself with 5 hours to kill in London whilst waiting for my passport I knew straight away that I had to go to EasyEverything for an Internet session. Sad really, I could have waited till I got home and surfed for free, after all I've already paid for this months access. Not me though, I couldn't wait I needed to check my email and how many reads my opinions had!
