Just back from an excellent 6 months in various S.E. Asian countries and I'm now passing the time until I head up to Durham to read English. Into music, going out, football and reading.
There's never a problem for free computers as there are over 100 in each branch. The system is that you buy a ticket with a code word printed on it which you then enter into a free computer, choosing a password so that you can carry on using the same ticket for upto a month.
The costs vary greatly - you can get anything from 25 minutes for £1 to 3 hours for the same price. Generally the times to avoid are lunch times, mid-morning and pretty much anytime during the day on weekends as you won't get much value for money at these times. If you're really looking to get your money's worth then you can always go in the early hours of the morning as the London branches are open 24 hours a day. There always seems to be quite a few people there, even at 2:00 am when I've gone in on my way home after a night out.
The computers are reasonably quick, but could be better and do occasionally take an age to load up a site. They can also be used for wordprocessing, although the version of Word they give you is so 'user-frienfly' that it's irritating - those that know what they're doing with Word shouldn't bother as there's no option to construct your own pages as you must use the in-built 'wizards'.
Another irritating thing is that you don't get your own computer - just your own screen, with a connection to a computer. This means that you can't just put your disk in and save something or load something up - you have to queue up and 'up-load' your disk to your personal computer. Although this doesn't take long, they do sometimes make mistakes and so it's worth checking to make sure that they really have saved your work to disk before you leave.
Overall, EasyEverything is good for convenient, 24-hour internet access but it's not exactly cheap during peak hours and there are better options available if you look around. Instead, try the Global Cafe, near Piccadilly Circus on Global Square. It's got a great atmosphere and is much cheaper. I've also reviewed this so check it out.
