I was excited about the possibility to rent a decent car to a very attractive price from easyrentacar,com, a new venture from the man behind easyjet and easyeverything. I rented a car, a Mercedes A-class, from their London Bridge site, shortly after it opened in April this year. The car was great and excellent value for money... or so I thought.
I was supposed to have paid £25 for the pleasure of using the car for one day. I had a great day and returned the car in perfect condition the same afternoon. So far so good.
One and a half months later I received my credit card statement. To my surprise I saw that easyrentacar had not only taken the initial £25 for my rental, but also, a few days later, without any notification, robbed me from an additional £129.60. I have never seen any paperwork that would support this claim and as far as I see it it is a question of theft.
Obviously I complained to their illusive customer service department, only accessible by email. No phone number is supplied on their website, nor any names or address. I have to date sent five emails. I have received two nonsense standard replies that discard my complaint and deny me to see the supporting paperwork. They claim that I have incurred excess mileage to the tune of £129.60. In other words, with an excess mileage fee of £0.20 per mile and 75 inclusive miles they claim that i had driven the car 723 miles during the 8 hours I had it in my possession - meaning an astounding average speed of more than 90 miles per hour...
I regard their behaviour as criminal and I am now working to taking legal aid to get my money back. Apart from arrogant and late replies they do not even bother to acknowledge receipt of my messages, they refuse to let me see their documentation and they refuse to name a person or give me a contact telephone number. Customer service at its worst.
Wow! Funnily enough, right now (13/8), literally as I am writing this message, I just received a third reply from them (on a Sunday) where they give me right and will deposit the money into my credit card as soon as possible. This just came in after another month of complete silence - not even acknowledging receipt of my lat two emails.

Advantages: Easy to book, cheap Disadvantages: The limited mileage makes you make every mile count (is that a disadvantage?)
...end I went back to easyrentacar.com and these are the reasons I recommend them:
* They were £100 cheaper than the others
* They were totally upfront about there charges and why they charge them
* The Mercedes A Class I hired was superb.
* Although the limited mileage of 75 miles seemed stingey, I travelled all round Scotland and only had to pay £17 for excess mileage (still saved over £80 against any other company)
* The internet site is very ... ...prices, the price for two of the days hire had risen from £9 to £18 per day. But there is no way I'll hang around next time. A superb experience.
Anybody hiring a car from Glasgow Airport (and the increasing number of other locations) should hire from EASYRENTACAR.COM ...

We hired a Mercedes A Class from easycar.com at Nice Airport. The paper work was all done via the internet in December 2000 and my credit car was duly debited with £155 which was for 10 days hire and £5 administration fee. I found their site very simple to use. The directions to the pick up point at Nice were excellent and so were the staff that we encountered. The paper work listed all the panels on the vehicle which were damaged (quite a few, although ... ...checked over the vehicle before "takin off". On return the vehicle was inspected in front of us and the paper work signed that there was no further damage, no excess mileage and that it was returned on time. I will be keeping a close check on my credit card for any unscrupulous entries from easycar.com. ...

Very unhelpful company! I booked a car in the UK, paying with my Visa debit card, and the payment went through all right. But after the binding payment had been taken from my account, the company informed that at the site of rental, only credit cards would be accepted for payment of the deposit. Other companies that I have rented from in the past have never required a credit card at the rental site (I'm only renting a small car, nothing fancy that requires extra deposit).
They did not want to let me cancel and I'm stuck with paying for a car I'm not allowed to use. I will never use easycar.com again. ...

I hired a car from easyrentacar in july last year and returned it in the same condition as when i hired it. 6 months later i was checking my latest credit card statement and found i had been charged £150 pounds for alleged damage. I sent an email to the company and the money was returned to my account, but if i hadn`t checked my account they would have got away with it. So anyone who has hired a car should be aware of what the easyrentacar company ...

Advantages: Quick, last minute booking and simple relationships, cheap. Disadvantages: web based, probably low customer service levels if things go wrong.
I realised the night before a holiday in Italy that I had forgotten to book a car. forget holidayautos - they need someone to call within 48 hours of a booking. I needed a car for 8 days after a flight in to Glasgow Airport. I had heard the bad press about easyrentacar so trawled through every other car rental company. In the end I went back to easyrentacar.com and these are the reasons I recommend them:

* The staff were very accomodating in agreeing to check the car in my presence (despite being very busy). I could therfore agree any extra charges.

EASYRENTACAR.COM offers a cheap, no thrills on-line car rental package.
BOOKINGS are made on–line, although last minute bookings are made via a premium rate phone number. The booking process is straightforward. A booking code, rental schedule, accident report forms and location maps are issued and then have to be printed-off on your PC.
WEB SITE is quite fast and the detailed information is well presented.
PRICES range from fantastic value for bookings made in advance to average. The cheapest rate is £9.00 per day + a one off £5.00 preparation fee + CDW Insurance. The mileage allowance is 100 km/day + 5p/km thereafter. The rental rates increase for short notice peak-time bookings. At these peak rates, a more conventional company sited at easier to access locations may be a better option.
