Advantages: performance nights Disadvantages: all the other nights
G-A-Y has the claim of being the largest gay club in Europe, but if you ever step inside this dump, it will be difficult to see what all the fuss is about. Sad camp queens in tight tops adorned with glitter and diamante and butch lesbians with dungarees and cropped hairstyles. This is the common stereotype of gay people and one that brings the community into disrepute. In essence, G-A-Y represents all that is wrong with the gay image.
If you didn't ... ...it affect my whole life and try not to live upto the typical image. Ok, I like Steps and wear clothes from Topman, but thats pretty much where it ends! I generally go to gay clubs to boogie on down to the cheesiest music around, and not usually to "pull". On entering G-A-Y, from Sunday to Thursday the Astoria theatre on Charing Cross Road , you are either encountered by topless couples eating eachother's faces or a plethora of wannabes with the sole ...

- or at least, that's always been my experience. It makes such a nice change to be able to go clubbing, wear outrageous clothes and jump up and down all you want without getting any unwanted male attention. No guys on the pull (or not ones interested in you anyhow) equals one hassle free evening, in which you can throw yourself around the dancefloor all night and not have someone try to stick their hand down your top. Plus - and any girl who's ever ... ...is - THERE ARE NO QUEUES FOR THE LADIES! Straight into the loo and straight out - an absolute first in my experience.
And there's no doubt that all of the above is one reason I had a great time at GAY last night. Not somewhere I'd normally go, I have to admit, since many of my gay friends are decidedly sniffy about it, but the trip was organised by a mate's ex who's camp enough to want to see Steps, who were performing live. So off we tripped to ...

I went to G.A.Y for the first time on Saturday and did not know what to expect and here goes.
LAYOUT and LOCATION
---------------------
G.A.Y is based very near to Tottenham Court road tube Station right in central London on the Northern and Central lines.
It holds around 10000 people and is on many floors. Inside it like a theatre which is something very different and that I have never seen before
PRICES

For the centre of London I ... ...THE ATMOSPHERE
---------------
G.A.Y is a mixture club and was full of all kinds of sexualities. Some were gay, some were lesbians and others were straight. Now that did not bother me in the slightest as I believe people should do what they feel comfortable with as long as they never try to get me involved of course.
It was fairly busy in there and the atmosphere was good.
MUSIC
------
A mixture of 80's, dance and pop.

Advantages: Good music good location Disadvantages: silly camp kids
I first started going to GAY many years ago when I came on the gay scene after a few years absence I visited it twice in the last few weeks and I now have mixed feelings.
Saturday night we arrived early to avoid any que's which was good and we looked forward to seeing Dina Carrol on stage what put me off was the young kids and I mean barely Legal guys running around camping up the place hissing all and sundry.
The night went ok but I vowed that ... ...week later I went to GAY on a Monday night (Cheap night) buy 1 hooch get another free and same for a can of carling.
This night had a mix of people ranging from barely legal to 50+ however no one I met had an attitude and everyone was there to have a good time and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Maybe I am getting old (only 29) but the place on a saturday seems to be going down hill, ok Jeremy does get some good acts on stage but he needs ...

Advantages: The Acts Disadvantages: Porr seating Over crowded over priced, a bit up itself
G-A-Y may be one of the biggest clubs in europe but the last time I checked boasting wasn't how you rated a good club.
The People who should consider G-A-Y are those very much into COMERCIAL sounds, and hot over priced enviroments.
Gay has very little seating none of which is at all comfortable, and the dance floor is un airconditioned and regularly over crowded. The music may as well be exactly the same each week except for the odd new Steps track, ... ...to appear on stage. All the G-A-Y club nights appeal very much to the stereo typical camp scene queen, not that this is wrong of course these people exist in droves. And of course with such a wide varity of acts and famous stars apearing each Saturday it is easy to forget the almost dead PA system. If you like your pop trash hard and fast and repetative then this is the place for you, Cheaper tickets are available from Ku bar and a few other local ...

Dear Andrea,
