I did a long crawl through the internet and eventually came up with a Holidays Autos as one of the cheapest and as it is als a large company thought i'd be fine.
Thought i had reserved car through the website, but apparently it's not a reservation at all, they need 2 days to confirm your booking.
2 days can be a long time when your trying to get everything done in advance. Anyway, I was travelling off peak and with over 3 weeks notice thought that everything should be OK.
Furthermore, if they don't have the exact car available they said they would give you one of the others within the category, there was a choice of least 5 other cars so I thought nothing could go wrong and finished my search on the internet.
The next day, no confirmation, fine they said 2 days, so i waited for the next day. In the middle of the day i get a call telling me the car is not available. I was really disappointed, as i wanted the merc as a surprise to my girlfriend. Anyway, i thought not to worry and just told them to give me one of the other other cars in the catergory, she then told me, "errrrh we don't have any of those either"... off peak, advance notice and they didn't have any cars??
she offered me cars in a lower category, but i felt it was such a waste of time and effort i refused. They should have offered me cars in a higher category anyway! Deep down i think they may have just quoted me wrong and were just trying to get out of the deal.
no apology, nothing.... a waste of time!
