Advantages lovely place to stay

Disadvantages none

Recently, I took my daughters down to Devon for a few days to visit their Nan and we stayed at Mill Farm which is just outside Kenton on the main coast road that runs between Exeter and Dawlish. This is a lovely AA rated 4 star working farm that offers bed and breakfast accommodation. As there are only five letting rooms, it means that it is both small and friendly.

The bedroom we stayed in was lovely and overlooked the fields with horses in that pleased my daughters greatly. All the bedrooms have en suites with either a bath or a shower. Our room had a double and a single bed and it was not squashed at all. There is also a flat screen TV, free internet access in the bedroom and tea and coffee making facilities. Freshly clean towels were provided in the bathroom as well as a selection of toiletries. I thought that this was a surprising extra and not something I would have expected from a small bed and breakfast provider. The room was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the décor and bed linen were very attractive. Also, as it is a very quiet location, there is nothing to stop you getting a good night's sleep especially with all that lovely country air!

Every morning there was a cooked breakfast on offer and plenty of choice as well as cereals, yoghurt, fruit juices etc. I think that much of the food was locally sourced. There was also plenty with the cereals, yoghurts, etc., being on a help yourself basis. Everything was delicious and I probably ate far too much. It was also great friendly service and again as there are only five rooms, there is no danger of having to wait too long to be served.

The farm is set in lovely grounds and there is plenty of parking space. It is a working farm although the only animals are horses. Although it is a quiet location, it is not far from the seaside resorts of Dawlish and Teignmouth as well as being close to what the city of Exeter has to offer. I found it quite nice to be heading somewhere quieter at night as much of Devon does get very busy in the summer. Also the farm is very close to Powderham Castle which also has a lovely farm shop and cafe.

I'm not quite sure why but Mill Farm does not cater for children under six years so I guess that they are not really encouraging families. However, my daughters, aged six and eight, were made to feel very welcome. There are also single, double and family rooms. For our room I paid £70 per night which included breakfast for all three of us. It felt like pretty good value. Overall I think that Mill Farm is a great place to stay if you are looking for a base to explore South Devon and want somewhere a bit quiet too. We definitely recommend it and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
