...being Raffles and the other Beijing Hotel. We visited Beijing in January this year staying for six nights in the Raffles section of the hotel. You know that you are arriving somewhere nice when your taxi door is opened as soon as you get there and friendly men smile at you and welcome you to the hotel. Advantages: beautiful gardens free to visit, good location, very clean and polite staff
Disadvantages: expensive internet

...hotel, it is named the grand view gardens because out the back is a huge garden which was infact used for a television show in china! It is free for those who stay in the hotel but if your not staying in there you have to pay. We spent a good couple of hours walking round it all. there is a huge man made lake in the middle with lots of trees and little chinese buildings and ornaments around. There is also a small animal 'zoo' which was quite nice. ...
...quite sad though because all the animals were so hungry and the staff sell food to visitors so you can feed them - so we did - and most of it! it was gone in a few seconds. Definalty worth visiting the gardens as they area beautiful, and in the evening there are shows. ...adorable courtyard. The room had red walls and a very high ceiling. The attached bathroom was OK, but pretty stinky, sewerage in China is a bit hairy. You are also not allowed to flush paper down the toilet, so leaving it to fester in a bin for a day just added to the delightful fragrance. ...it as the weather wasn't too hot. One complaint was the level of noise. This morning some construction work started round the back of the hostel and I awoke to loud grinding. The walls were also very thin which could be irritating if you have neighbours who are late nighters or early risers. My friend was in a dorm room in the corridor by the entrance and she said it was very loud at night, and that it was annoying not being able to turn on the light ... Read review
