Over priced average hotel
Review of Thistle Manchester, Manchester by
leannemichele18
Advantages: Great Location, friendly staff
Disadvantages: over priced.
...so I went for the Thistle as it was alot cheaper than other hotels with a pool, jacuzzi and sauna. I paid £79 for one night at the weekend. We arrived about 1.30pm and although it states check in is at 2 o'clock we thought we would try a bit earlier. The staff on reception were very friendly and checking in that bit early was not a problem. The reception is quite elegant looking with security on the door of an evening and a restaurant and bar, which ... ...Overall I dont think the Thistle is worth the money they charge especially as sometimes the rooms can be over £110! The rooms are very average in need of some refurbishment, if your only after a basic hotel in a great location and are willing to pay the money for it then the Thistle is for you.
If I was only looking for basic facilities as this hotel has, I personally would look to pay a bit less in another hotel. ...

Noisy, Smelly, Tatty Hotel Stuck In The 1970's
Review of Britannia Country House Hotel, Manchester by
johnny040676
Advantages: Close To Manchester Airport
Disadvantages: Too Many To List, Needs A refurb, Needs A Good Clean, Noisy
BACKGROUND
*******************
Ahh the Britannia Country House Hotel, a couple of miles from Manchester airport, the perfect place to stay the night before jeting off on our honeymoon, thought my new wife and I in August 2006. We booked online and only paid £64 for a double room with champagne on arrival, and it looked so modern and the name country house just added to the picture in our heads what a perfect start to our honeymoon. How wrong can ... ...We arrived on a Saturday afternoon having got married on the Thursday and stayed a couple of nights at the hotel we had got married in, and as we parked on the large car park to the front and walked up to the front we noticed there was a wedding going on and they were having some photo's taken outside, the exterior looked very nice an fairly modern and the gardens were nice.
As we entered the building though everything changed, the decor inside ...

Should Be Called "The Palace" aparthotel
Review of The Place Apartment Hotel, Manchester by
nic20
Advantages: Gorgeous hotel, not too close to the centre so you dont get the noise
Disadvantages: the very slow lift
The Decision
My partner and myself decided to make this trip to Manchester a special one. To be honest (like most couples) we have very little quality time together. So the search for a great hotel started. Every hotel was starting to look very similar to the next, until we stumbled upon "The Place Aparthotel". It offered a different concept in hotel stays, as what you actually stayed in were apartments instead of tiny hotel rooms. The fact that ... ...we went for it.
The Arrival
It took us about two hours to get to our chosen hotel. Due to the wonders of satellite navigation it directed us nicely in the vicinity of The Place Aparthotel. Then the problems of the sat nav came in, for those of you who aren't aware of how these systems operate the majority of them do not take into account one-way systems.. and to make matters worse for the last part of the journey there were roadwork's around the ...

Simply Perfect
Review of Radisson Edwardian Manchester, Manchester by
KELLYLOUJ
Advantages: Great service, ideal location, modern rooms with lots of fab features
Disadvantages: The prices.
...a fantastic rate for the Radisson Edwardian I made my reservation there.
I made my reservation over the phone directly with the hotel to secure my rate of £75 for the room for the night, however reservations can be made on their website www.radissonedwardian.com/manchester.
*~*Locating the Hotel*~*
The hotel is easy to miss on busy Peter Street as the entrance is set away from the pavement; I was armed with maps to ensure that I didn't end up ... ...of glass double doors with Radisson Edwardian etched into the glass.
As you enter the hotel you are greeted with the reception area on the left and running through the middle of reception are fantastic leather sofas with complementary newspapers on the tables. As I arrived I was greeted with a friendly smiley staff member eager to check me in.
Check in is at 2pm and I had called to advise that I would be arriving later that day and secured the ...

Who turned out the lights?
Review of Holiday Inn Express Manchester East, Manchester by
xxfibeexx
Advantages: clean, good standard rooms
Disadvantages: Not central, fiddly lighting, and the staff were having a bad day, breakfast
...room at the Express by Holiday Inn.
Here's where my troubles began
Despite calling me Fiona on the phone and having me spell out my full name when they took my debit card details the e-mail confirmation bore a different initial. No problems I thought, I have driving lisence and anyway my card details can be checked.
I set off from home for the six hour journey and all went well until I was within spitting distance and then I got lost, very lost! ... ...as you would expect from Holiday Inn. I thought it was pricey for what we got, I paid £89 and to be fair it wasn't very different from a travel lodge or premier inn. Would I stay there again? Hmmm, I guess if there was no comparable but cheaper alternatives. A resounding OK is how I'd sum up the experience. ...
