Great Hotel
Review of Beacon Hotel, New York City by Raychella

Advantages: Amenities Close-by
Disadvantages: Noise if window open from street

I stayed here about a year and a half ago now. I went to New York for a college trip. There was 6 of us to a one bedroom suite, two double beds and one double pull-out sofa bed. It was a comfortable few nights sleep. The room also had a bathroom and small kitchenette. The kitchenette had a microwave, stove, kettle etc. Both the bedroom and living room had a tv. Our heating wasn't working in the living room, so we informed reception. They sent someone ...
...about 11.30pm. The only slight problem was our room was facing Broadway and if you left the window open you would wake up from the morning traffic if a light sleeper! The subway station is a little bit of a walk but not too far. The hotel is within walking distance of Central Park. There is a little supermarket directly opposite the hotel. There is a cafe next to the hotel with Starbuck's directly across from that. ... Read review

THE budget hotel to stay in on your visit to NYC..
Review of Belleclaire Hotel, New York City by psychobunni

Advantages: Clean, Comfortable, Very cheap.
Disadvantages: No views from the windows, Small lifts.

...2006! I chose the Belleclaire for the second time, after being so pleased after my first visit two years ago. The reviews I had read before the first trip on various websites were all pretty good apart from the odd one that complained about things such as the renovation that was being undertaken at that point in time and the odd dingy bathroom. I went not expecting a fantastic hotel but a basic, comfortable hotel and I was not let down in any way ...
...We arrived at the hotel Belleclaire for our 5 night stay and were greeted by the doorman who pointed us to the reception in the lovely modern foyer. We were checked in quickly, with no problems then directed to our rooms which was only a few floors up. We waited for one of the lifts (there were two, both were small but never busy) and found our rooms with ease. We had booked a double room with a shared bathroom on a non-smoking floor, the room was ... Read review

My home away from home
Review of Comfort Inn Manhattan, New York City by Delicate_Orchid

Advantages: location, clean, friendly staff
Disadvantages: noise, elevators, sinks, toilet paper, quilts

...soundproof. I chose the Comfort Inn Manhattan after extensive research. I think the deciding factor for me was that this hotel had received the so-called “Gold Award” for five years in a row. So Did it deserve this prestgious award? ♦ Location ♦ You could not wish for a better location than the Comfort Inn Manhattan. Located between 5th and 6th Avenue on 35th Street, you are within a walking distance of Macy’s, the wealth of stores on ...
...and services ♦ The Comfort Inn Manhattan does not offer any other facilities. It does not have a gym sauna or swimming pool. It does not offer room service, but provides menus of local food establishments from which you can order take away food. ♦ Departure ♦ When we checked out on our final day, I was surprised to find that I still needed to pay a extra mandatory charge of $1.08 per day for the in-room safe. You have to pay ... Read review

Great location, but disappointing NYC hotel..
Review of Hotel Wolcott, New York City by kate_mustoe

Advantages: Central Location
Disadvantages: Pricey - not paticularly good value for money, rooms are tired and in need of a makeover

...you should expect from a hotel in New York. I guess it is more or less on a par with London as far as "value for money" is concerned. This hotel is in a fabulous location. A couple of minutes stroll to the Empire State Building which is directly infront of (and above) you as you step out of the front door. Also very close to Macy's and Times Square. In fact quite a central location as we walked easily from the hotel to Central Park, 5th Avenue, the ...
...even less so as the hotel was completely covered in scaffolding when we were there in October 2006, but there is a post office just a few yards from the hotel which comes in handy. Inside the hotel, the lobby is very impressive if a little kitchy! Very high ceilings with lots of gold ornate flowers and cherubs! The staff were polite but checking in was a bit of a military procedure with photocopies having to be taken of every piece of documentation ... Read review

The plaza to be...
Review of Milford Plaza Hotel, New York City by Tim_74

Advantages: Location - central to theatres, Times Square
Disadvantages: Bustling noisy location may not suit all

Milford Plaza is in an excellent location if you want to enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown New York. Situated right next to Times Square, it is ideal for the Broadway shows or just to enjoy the hustle and bustle of New York life. On first entering the hotel, it may seem like the Milford has seen better days, but for the price the accommodation is good, clean and ideal. Rooms could be bigger, but in New York space seems to be a premium - and ...
...hotels in New York, the Milford Plaza is very good. The staff are helpful and there is definately that New York feel about the place. Like anywhere in NY - or most of the States for that matter - the hotel is room only, so don't expect a slap up breakfast to go with it. However, its location means there are plenty of places to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner along with every meal in between. ... Read review
