Great location but little else
Review of 60 Thompson, New York City by gingernut_1

Advantages: Excellent location
Disadvantages: Expensive

The Thomson Sixty is a relatively new "boutique" hotel in Soho New York. Location wise it is excellent, ten minutes walk away from the nearest subway, 5 minutes walk to the stylish Soho shops and excellent restaurants and bars around. Both Little Italy and Chinatown are in walking distance. I stayed there with three friends and the hotel said we could all stay in one room. We thought this was great as it would cut down our costs, however the room ...
...Every other hotel I have stayed in in the US have had Queen or Kingsize beds. The other problem with the hotel was the heat. It was winter so the bar conditioning had been turned off but you had no control of the heating in the bedroom. We had to leave the windows open all day and at night had to shut the window due to New York noise but the room became unbearably hot. Reception were not helpful in this matter. the hotel bar was nice except some ... Read review

Half Price Hotel Heaven
Review of Belnord, New York City by zoe_page

Advantages: Off Broadway, great transport connections, cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Few facilities, not en-suite

It took me a while to find a hotel for when I was in New York. What I really wanted was the Holiday Inn for about $50 a night, but since that didn’t seem possible, I had to search around a bit. Eventually I stumbled upon the Belnord and although it didn’t have its own website, and info on it was limited, I booked it anyway on a whim. Now when I look back, I’m glad I did. The average price for a hotel room when I went to New York ...
...prices having been reduced in the wake of September 11th). I paid $71 per night which included all taxes of which there were a handful, which seemed quite reasonable to me. The location is wonderful – only 10 mins walk from Central Park, and 2 minutes to the nearest subway (86th Street, on line 1, 2, 3 and 9 – the red ones. It only takes this long as crossing Broadway requires a good minute and a half). Within 5 minutes walk, either along ... Read review

Good value hotel with no frills
Review of Milford Plaza Hotel, New York City by Arboy1971

Advantages: Location, customer service
Disadvantages: Can't think of any really.

...were eventually accommodated at the Milford Plaza and I cannot reccommend them enough for their outstanding customer service. The front desk staff were extremely helpful in trying to solve our predicament and found us a room at mega short notice. As for the accommodation, the room we were allocated was on a high floor and had a king bed, TV, table and chairs, en--suite bathroom with shower and all of the usual accoutrements you would expect of this ...
...below and there are a few sex shops in the area which makes it seem a little seedy but it seemed safe enough to us. The best feature by far is the location. You are only a few blocks from Times Square and also to Penn Station. Good value overall. ... Read review
