Our Helmsley experience
Review of The New York Helmsley, New York City by vixxys

Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Snooty staff

Our stay at The Helmsley was May last year.First impressions very nice clean hotel, which is a relief when you see some of the other hotels in the city! The lobby is a good size, the doormen are there but only really seem to want to help the very rich people(bigger tips). The front staff(reception) well 1 in particular didnt really seem to be enjoying her job, seemed not really bothered. To her she has checked in loads of people but for us this was our ...
...sized room. Our room was on the 14th floor,as we looked out of the window there was our view...The Empire state buliding!!Fantastic. Toiletries are replenished everyday,on week days the New York times gets delivered to your room for free.Overall we would stay here again the location is also very good about 10 mins to times square. Its pretty much central to alot of the sights, one of them being Grand Central Station which is just a few minutes down ... New Yorker Hotel Stay - May 2008
Review of Ramada Plaza & Inn - New Yorker Hotel, New York City by Bodatron

Advantages: Great location, clean and tidy.
Disadvantages: A little dated, but being refurbished.

My wife and I stayed at the New Yorker Hotel between 20th - 25th May 2008. The staff were always very helpful and curtious. The room decor was a little dated, but clean and tidy. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment, but the work was not noticeable to the guests. The "tick-tock" diner is located in the front entrance of the hotel, which was very good for breakfast, with a great service! The hotel location is great, with the subway just outside ... There are far better four star hotels
Review of The Helmsley Park Lane, New York City by emmiecole

Advantages: Great location
Disadvantages: Certainly not a four star hotel

...elegance and was sadly disappointed. The place looked tired, grubby and in need of a facelift. The bathroom looked like something out of a 1970's motel with peeling watersealing and melamine sink surround. The check-in staff were unattentive and seemed somewhat overworked running all over the place. The pushy bellhop gave me no choice but to take my bags and stood waiting until I gave him a tip and then walked off without thanks. It was extremely ...
...Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman and the lovely toystore FAO Schwatrz are all within a 5 minute walk. I did not use any of the hotels facilities so can not comment on these. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and find it unbelievable The Plaza is in the same class as this when they are clearly worlds apart. The location is great but that counts for little if the hotel is poor. ... Read review

THE budget hotel to stay in on your visit to NYC..
Review of Belleclaire Hotel, New York City by psychobunni

Advantages: Clean, Comfortable, Very cheap.
Disadvantages: No views from the windows, Small lifts.

...2006! I chose the Belleclaire for the second time, after being so pleased after my first visit two years ago. The reviews I had read before the first trip on various websites were all pretty good apart from the odd one that complained about things such as the renovation that was being undertaken at that point in time and the odd dingy bathroom. I went not expecting a fantastic hotel but a basic, comfortable hotel and I was not let down in any way ...
...We arrived at the hotel Belleclaire for our 5 night stay and were greeted by the doorman who pointed us to the reception in the lovely modern foyer. We were checked in quickly, with no problems then directed to our rooms which was only a few floors up. We waited for one of the lifts (there were two, both were small but never busy) and found our rooms with ease. We had booked a double room with a shared bathroom on a non-smoking floor, the room was ... Read review

Great find
Review of Hotel Stanford, New York City by CadetTraveler

Advantages: Location, Price, Cleanliness, Staff
Disadvantages: Thermostat was broken, fee for late checkout

This is a great hotel for downtown NYC. Location: You're less than a block from the Empire State Building, two blocks from Penn Station, and practically across the street from Macey's. It's also about 30 meters from a subway stop. Price: I paid less than half of what people were paying in the next hotel over. I booked through the Stanford's own website, which was cheaper than any of the Hotels.com-type sites Service: Excellent. The staff was definitely ...
...that. Rooms: Small, but quite livable (what do you expect in NYC?). They're recently renovated and very clean. Caveats: Don't plan on sleeping in, as they have an extra charge for checking out after 10 a.m., which increases the longer you stay. Don't expect much of a view, either; ours was over an alley. The thermostat in our room was broken, so when we arrived it was uncomfortably warm, but opening the window for ten minutes solved that problem. ... Read review
