Disadvantages Disadvantages cold, dirty, smelly, uncomfortable and hairy!!!

We booked 4 nights at the ilfracombe holiday park, after a 7hr car journey we arrived at the park we checked in and went to our chalet if you can call it that. It was 317 across the road behind a load of bins. We opened the door to be hit by a disgusting smell, it was freezing cold with 1 storage heater for the whole chalet, the sofa was a sofa bed fron the 70's that would struggle to fit 2 people on and the t.v was the sixe of a postage stamp. No shower no iron or ironing board and there were hairs in the fridge and microwave. we felt dirty just walking in there, we locked the door and handed ... more

Advantages Advantages good value, clean site, varied entertainments excellent location.

Disadvantages Disadvantages sloping tent pitches, swimming pool needs extending

We opted for a tent pitch at the Widecombe Bay holiday park just south of Bude. The pitch itself was on a slope which made for interesting times staying in bed as the kids kept sliding out of the door! The site itself was very clean and litter free. The warden and staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and throughout our week long stay. Unfortunately it rained every day, typical British summer I guess, and the ground did get rather sloppy underfoot, unavoidable perhaps. The shared facilities were of a good standard and the cleaners did a remarkable job of keeping them clean at every ... more

    Advantages Advantages surrounding areas beautifful

Disadvantages Disadvantages chalet a let down

had a holiday at infracoombe first week in september, travelled 400 miles and,the chalet left a lot to desire,it was cold and damp, which meant your clothes where damp, when you put them on in the morning. the heating was a wall mounted hot air heater in the sitting room and just not up to the job.no heating in the bedrooms watso ever, settee was a foldy down bed and could not be sat on as the cushions collapsed into the frame work ,bathroom not cleaned properly, reception staff where good, but cleaningstaff slow to respond, and no security personel on the door of the concert room, very very ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Do not go there!

We stayed in the little holiday park in Combe Martin, lovely gardens and wonderful view. It looked primising and much nicer than the caravan parks. However, the cornflower chalet was horrible, damp, smelly, dated, tasteless, car boot sale decoration, disgusting carpets, bad lighting, not a single reading lamp in sight. Generally speaking crappy and shabby. And the shower was an insult. The bar looks equally dated and dark. And there is no laundry service at all. I hope someone takes over the thing and makes something nice out of it. It was not cheap at all and no value for money either. And ... more

Advantages Advantages excellent entertainment, friendly staff, camp near to Hayle

Disadvantages Disadvantages about 10 mins away from st ives, cold and damp.

ST IVES HOLIDAY VILLAGE St Ives is one of the John Fowler Holiday parks situated in Lelant Downs in Cornwall. Although there are major adjustments need to be made to the park all the staff were friendly. There was great entertainment during the 2008 season especially when there were power cuts where the ents staff had to fill in. This park is cheap value in price. So for that amount of money what do you really expect? I have been going to St Ives Holiday Village quite regular throughout 2008 season and will definitely go again. Although there was a power cut at the end of the season at no ... more

Stayed in Royal Gold bungalow 23/30/08/2008.Site and bungalow clean and tidy but bungalow space at a premium.Reported faulty towel rail on first day but it never got fixed. Laundry machines were next to useless. Washing came out wringing wet and after two hours in tumble drier no difference. Got the feeling that washer set at minimum spin and tumble drier set at minimum heat so it would cost more to do laundry.Pool overcrowded and kids aloud to run riot.No chance of a proper swim as it did not open till ten.Doubt if we would go back.

Advantages Advantages nice accomadation, warm welcome

Disadvantages Disadvantages mainly for children, middle of nowhere, nothing to do

We went to St Ives it was my first "holiday" with my boyfriends family and they had been a few times before but when their children were younger. I thought we would have loads of fun, not the case. The clubhouse has a sort of game room, a bar and a big room for the cabaret act and bingo in the evening. They had a swimming pool but thats about it. We enjoyed the entertainment at first but it got boring after a week. We went swimming a lot because it was the only thing to do. It was a place for young children and adults who were made happy as long as their kids were happy. The challets were nice ... more

John Fowler- Coombe Martin 16/8/08-23/8/08- 6 in party. Well on first impression it was dated and very very old fashioned...got into my 6 berth Caravan and Yes it was, what a surprise. The caravan smelt old and musty and very damp as it was under lots of big trees. Ended up sleeping on the settee's because the mattress smelt so bad. Not enough crockery or untensils.Tthe "club" was so dated and tatty we didnt even bother to go down to it. There was no where for my daughter to just play around the caravan and parking was so terribly "tight",crammed in. ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages To many to list - complete waste of hard earned money

We went to John Fowler, Illfracombe holiday park during August 2008 and paid over £850 for a week in their "Royal Gold Bungalow" accommodation. We booked after looking at their holiday brochure - what an absolute waste of money and i would not recommend this "park" to anyone, i came away feeling i had been taken for a fool for parting with £850 to stay on this so called holiday park. 1. When you book a holiday for your family and you are paying for the "top" accommodation available on the holiday park, you have certain expectations about the type of holiday you can expect and the JFH brochure ... more
