Melia White House, London

I have just returned from a weekend break in London - and what a time I had. I had never been to London before and so I was very excited to go to the big city. We went to London as part of a coach tour and so we didn’t have a choice regarding the hotel. The hotel which we stayed at was Amelia Whitehouse Hotel London. My partner and i were recently in london for the weekend so i looked up expedia to see which hotels we could stay in and i decided on the melia white house as i thought it looked nice and was in a medium price range. The hotel is conveniently located as it is only about 3-5 minutes walk from the great portland street tube station which means that it is easy to get to other parts of london from the hotel. I stayed at the Melia White House hotel in June 2008, on my first trip to London. Finding our way from Heathrow T5 to the hotel, negotiating the underground, was surprisingly easy, as the hotel is situated within 5 minutes walk of Great Portland St underground station, just outside leafy Regents Park. Warren St and Regents Park underground stations are also within 10 minutes walk in either direction. I stayed here for two nights over a weekend spent visiting friends who live in north london. We booked through lastminute.com, and like other reviewers, got an excellent deal of £89 per night B&B. We arrived via tube and found the hotel easily a short walk away. I was really pleased walking into the lobby. It was clean, bright, fresh flowers everywhere - i thought it was beautiful However, having read another reviewer's comments on arriving after a tiring journey and having to navigate such a large space, i can understand what they meant. Last weekend we stayed at the 4 star Sol Melia White House in Regents Park, London after placing a winning bid of 74 pounds on the Priceline UK website (came to 91 pounds after taxes). Located in the deepest northern reaches of Priceline's Bloomsbury area of London it was further than we would have chosen from the center but this turned out not to be an issue. Having read the inimitable Tiger Eyes’ wonderful review but negative experience of the White House Hotel it was with apprehension that I “looked forward” to staying there on an unavoidable pre-booked long weekend. To make matters worse I arrived at the hotel at around 2.00 a.m. after a delayed flight. The reception area was very large, if a bit confusing for a befuddled mind….
