Advantages Advantages Weather, beach and the food!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Airport, roads and COST!

Having been back 4 days from our 2 week hol in Jamaica, I thought I MUST write this before I forget what was what! Pre-holiday details: We normally like to do all-inclusive hols as I prefer to vegetate and be waited on hand and foot whilst on holiday!! (work hard, play hard???) So having already been to other Caribbean locations, we decided this year to do Jamaica. We initially had considered Cuba, but it was more expensive! We saw the resort in a brochure and decided on the hotel. Having checked out the amenities in every brochure and online, we decided to book the 4* plus hotel 'Wyndham Rose ... more

Advantages Advantages Gorgeous beaches, relaxed atmosphere

    Disadvantages Disadvantages long flight

If you're looking for a calm and relaxing holiday to help you leave you're troubles behind, then Jamaica is the place to go. It is particularly appealing to couples if you like the sound of late night walks along the beach, watching the sun go down and lazing around the pool all day topping up you're tan! Whilst visiting Jamaica you get a great idea of the culture and the way that people live, you can experience a variety of new things as well as enjoying the breathtaking and pictoresque beach views. Staying in a resort on the beach is an amazing experience, you can endure great views, a ... more

Advantages Advantages SUN, SEA, RELAXATION, FUN tooooo much more to mention

Disadvantages Disadvantages That 10 hour flight

Me and my fiance went to Jamaica last year, and were the envy of all of our friends and family. It was simply two perfect blissful weeks of sheer beauty, luxury and being pampered. We went to Jamaica in May, on average the temperature was about 87(f) which is around 30(c). We stayed in a beautiful hotel called The Jack Tar Village which was an all inclusive hotel. It's around 15 minutes away from the airport, there is a fair bit of aircraft noise with it being that close to the actual airport. The hotel is built on a private beach, and it's also on the "hip strip" The hotel room was nicely ... more

    Advantages Advantages Amazing Beaches

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The long Flight

If you’re up for an irie time, visit Jamaica! We walked Waterfalls, swam with dolphins and had banana lessons! This holiday was a totally new experience, when booking our holiday we decided we wanted to go a bit further a field and after looking through piles of travel brochures decided on Montego Bay, Jamaica. We arrived after a 10 hr journey to find a 6 hr time difference so even though it felt like the middle of the night it was still sunny and the middle of the afternoon! We checked into our hotel The Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, this process took so long, After this we were taken to ... more

    Advantages Advantages LOADS

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Hassle from beggars

Anybody who has been lucky enough to go to Jamaica will be familiar with this saying, it seems to be the Jamaicans national catch phrase, and you know what? It’s usually true, nothing was too much trouble for the majority of Jamaicans we met when we stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort in Montego Bay. I say the majority because there was one or two incidents that went against this which I will tell you about later on in the review. But anyway, lets take a step back, my girlfriend and I had just had a lucky break money wise and were looking to treat ourselves to somewhere exotic and it came ... more

CARIBBEAN CAPERS A late booking in January for a bargain package deal saw us winging our way across the Atlantic in a Boeing 757, heading for Jamaica. Escaping from the English winter, we touched down in Bangor for refuelling, then headed south for the West Indies. After some 12 hours total flying time we landed at the ‘Island in the Sun’ in brilliant sunshine with temperatures in the eighties. Neither of us had been before and our knowledge of the island was confined to Bob Marley and Reggae music, Harry Belafonte, rum and cricket. Jamaica is rich in cane sugar, beautiful flowers, lush ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, All inclusive.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pollution, Poor Watersports, Poor Food, Noise

I took a cheapie to Jamaica this year a week in Trelawny Beach near Mo'bay for £550. The hotel was OK, noisy but that seems to go for everywhere in Jamaica, the food was free and that was all it was worth. Trips were OK but the hotel couldn't arrange anyway to get up into the cockpit country (read "Halidon" to whet your appretite). The "diving school" was poor, I think the "instructors" had blown ear drums so no deep dives to be had. I would definitley not recomend learning to dive there, the novice who dived of the boat with me (in force 5) had trouble keeping up with his instructor. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Sandals in genuinely "All Inclusive", and oozes quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Jamaica seems festooned with hustlers

I went to Sandals Montego Bay for 2 weeks in August 1997 for my honeymoon. It seemed pricey at first glance (it was about 3400 ukp for us both) but this turned out to be pretty good value for money. The food was excellent, there were at least 5 restaurants to choose from including a Chinese, an Italian and an A La Carte, all at least four courses. You could also pop along to Sandals Royal Jamaican or Sandals Inn for a change. Sandals Royal Jamaican has an excellent Indonesian restaurant you have to get to in a "traditional" Balinese boat, but it's well worth the effort. All of the staff did ... more
