A bargain-value all-rounder
Review of Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel, Singapore by VC81

Advantages: High quality rooms and facilities, good value for money
Disadvantages: Some way from the main attractions

I stayed here on a short stop-over in early 2005. I chose the Roxy because it was both close to the airport, and the ferry terminal, and as I'd been to Sing a few times before and done the tourist sights, this would be a handy location as I was planning a day trip to Indonesia. It was wonderful after a long flight to zip straight out of the airport and arrive at the hotel in minutes, being welcomed by a courteous doorman, and entering into a cool, ...
...impressively spotless, with some chic leather sofas and a gaggle of efficient porters and receptionists. The room was equally as welcoming and pristine, and seemed to have been recently furbished. The only downside was the size. As we were a party of three, they had squeezed a camp bed in between the regular twins, which made it feel a little cramped, and us feel a bit like sardines while we slept. However, it was very comfortable, with cable TV, ... Read review

Holiday Inn Park View Singapore
Review of Holiday Inn Park View, Singapore by rmayor

Advantages: Location, breakfast, pool
Disadvantages: Poor views

Stayed here in March 08 and April 06. The hotel is in a good position just off Orchard Road. However, don't expect any great views as it has buildings on three sides and a freeway on the other. Bathrobes and slippers were provided and a good selection of toiletries including razor and toothbrush. There was a safe in the room and fridge. Ice is available on a couple of floors. The rooms are well furnished. The bar adjacent to reception is good and ...
...time for with a really extensive selection, although the coffee was not the greatest. Can recommend the Indian restaurant in the basement for a good meal. The roof pool is very good with excellent changing facilities. Unfortunately it poured with rain the time we visited it last! The hotel is convenient for public transport, but taxis are really cheap. Service is good and we found the staff helpful. On our last day we left late afternoon, but ... Read review

Singapore - the Hotel 81 chain
Review of Hotel 81 - Gold, Singapore by webfoot

Advantages: Cheap, clean and safe
Disadvantages: Not for the faint-hearted if you don't like the real world

...mean to stay in a Hotel 81 hotel. I was planning to be in transit through Singapore at my own expense for a day or so.I tried three four-star special offers. The first two came back after about 12 hrs to inform me that their hotel was full on the dates in question. The third hotel was also full but offered me a hotel, Hotel 81 Geyland on Lorong 20, which they recommended for a cost of about £20 per night. Time was a bit tight ,but the photo looked ...
...in the year. This hotel is not for seekers of de-luxe accommodation. The rooms are completely basic and quite small. My room had an air-conditioner (which did not cost extra to use), a small bathroom with toilet and shower and a welcome bag with toothbrush and paste etc in it. It was spotlessly clean and quiet (I had asked for a quiet room which was unusual as we shall see later. ) It also had asmall UK Channel colour TV and Internet connection ... Read review

Reliable up-market hotel
Review of Pan Pacific, Singapore by JackieLittle

Advantages: Centrally situated
Disadvantages: Can be a little confusing to find your. way around initally

Stayed at the Pan Pacific in March 2007. We found it extremely comfortable, the staff were very polite and helpful, sometimes hilariously so!. On the day of our arrival, we had only been in the room for about half an hour when a young man knocked on the door. He wanted to check the room, but didn't seem to understand that we had only just arrived. We let him in (it was easier), and he looked around, then went into the bathroom and folded the toilet ...
...The pool area is very pleasant and comfortable. As we lay on our sunbeds, a little maid appeared with complimentary bottles of water and fruit. There were also magazines, clean towels and free sun creams to use. The hotel is connected to the Marina Shopping Mall through a door on the second floor. If you aren't going out in a taxi, then you don't use the front door, it leads on to a service road, very confusing! Food and drink is fairly expensive, ... Read review

Pan Pacific Singapore
Review of Pan Pacific, Singapore by ThomasRb

Advantages: Great location, good facilities and service; and comfortable rooms!
Disadvantages: A bit of a walk to the closest MRT (City Hall)

...and commercial places. In fact, Pan Pacific Singapore is within walking distance of many of Singapore's historic landmarks, such as the Padang, stage to some of the most significant national events, the Cenotaph and the commemorative landing site of Sir Stamford Raffles - founder of modern Singapore. It is also close to Singapore's historic, cultural and entertainment areas, such as CHIJMES, the Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, Robertson Walk and the new ...
...connected to Millenia Walk and Suntec City shopping complexes. You must try the Hai Tien Lo for exquisite Cantonese, Keyaki Japanese restaurant for authentic Japanese food. Its amazing!! Full-length glass windows with views of Singapore's city skyline or the Marina Bay harbour are a pleasure to look at. ... Read review
