Advantages: Great rooms & facilities
Disadvantages: not close to any good reasturants, no direct views of the Harbour

I stayed in the York in a serviced apartment in 2002. We had a great view of the city centre from our balcony, the room was HUGE! and also had (as you would expect from they type of room) washing/drying facilities, fully fitted kitchen, the furniture was of a very good standard (the bed was marvellous!) and we had cable TV (not that we watched it much) also it was a quiet room with no noise from other appts. It was the 1st place we stayed in Sydney ...
...the city to full advantage. In that 1 week we explored (on foot as it is quite small) all of the CBD (Central Business District - AKA city centre) it is all easily accessible from the York. Darling Harbour is a short trip away as is Circular Quay - which is where you can get a ferry to most places in the Sydney area. Disadvantages: No view of the bridge or opera house.

Have stayed at this hotel on 2 occasions & was very impressed, The consierge has all the information you could need & can make bookings for you at very short notice, The staff are all very helpful & the rooms appear to be well maintained. The food is of a very good standard & international. Most of the rooms to the front have good views although you probably wouldnt spend too much time there as there is so much to do in Sydney. Advantages: Brilliant View, close to city
Disadvantages: Very expensive....not worth the money

...splash out and stay at Star City.....which is right in the heart of Darling Harbour in the city. After arriving at the airport we had our first bad experience in that they make you PAY for the airport Shuttle bus...not just any shuttle bus, the actual star city one! So they make their guests pay to get to the hotel....In my opinion, when you pay such high prices to stay somewhere nice, you would think the shuttle bus is part of the service! So ...
...hotel only to find they CHARGE their own guests $40 per NIGHT to park at the hotel....yes the hotel that you are a guest at and have paid $300+ per NIGHT to stay at! For these prices, you would expect a really nice room, we stayed there for 4 nights so it wasn't cheap and to be honest, the room we had was no different from a Travelodge room..it was very ordinary! Advantages: Clean, excellent service, near to city centre.
Disadvantages: Near very noisy pub, not a great view from apartment.

...other minor fault with the Meriton is we were in a one bedroom apartment but they had placed the beds so that you couldn't close the bedroom door. The location of the hotel was in the centre of the shopping district and to get to the major attractions of Sydney it was a 20-40 minute walk. The facilities in the apartment were excellent and its was very clean with a daily maid service, this covered having your bed made, new towels and replenishment ...
...facilities in the room were excellent. There was the television, fridge and freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, dish washer, washer and dryer and an ironing board and iron. There was also a gas hob which i decided not to risk trying. The apartments were very clean, especially the bathroom which had a sink, shower and toilet and plenty of cupboard space in which to put your toiletries.
