Disadvantages: Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

...useful. Breakfast at the hotel is nice but expensive. Alternatively walk down the hill to Circular Quay and have a full English at one of the Al Fresco cafes, before going for a cruise around Port Jackson, or wherever your fancy takes you. Dinner at the InterContinental is also not cheap, but very good, seafood, steaks, etc., served with a smile, and any quirky extras you may require (Heinz Ketchup, English Mustard, etc.). We stayed in the Shangri La for 2 weeks in April 2006. I travelled with my family and we shared 2 rooms looking over the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. We arrived on our first day in Sydney and were really impressed with the hotel and its location looking out onto the Opera House and Bridge. i would recommend paying the extra as it was great waking up to the view every morning. The rooms were really nice with large marble bathrooms and large wardrobes containing a safe (which I will come onto later!). Disadvantages: Near very noisy pub, not a great view from apartment.

...other minor fault with the Meriton is we were in a one bedroom apartment but they had placed the beds so that you couldn't close the bedroom door. The location of the hotel was in the centre of the shopping district and to get to the major attractions of Sydney it was a 20-40 minute walk. ...facilities in the room were excellent. There was the television, fridge and freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, dish washer, washer and dryer and an ironing board and iron. There was also a gas hob which i decided not to risk trying. The apartments were very clean, especially the bathroom which had a sink, shower and toilet and plenty of cupboard space in which to put your toiletries.
